Volume I | Winter 2019
The Ontario Caregiver Organization has recently been established to support and ease the burden on caregivers - ordinary people including children and youth who are caring for family members, partners, friends and neighbours, who have physical and/or mental health needs.

Our newsletter will share information about caregiving in Ontario, available supports and services and what we’re working on to enhance the caregiving experience. If you would like to contribute content to our newsletter or if you have story ideas, please contact us at info@ontariocaregiver.ca

The One New Year’s Resolution Caregivers Should Consider
If you made a new year’s resolution, this is about the time that your commitment begins to wain and habits from the year before start to resurface. After all, there’s something comforting about a familiar routine. This year, we think there is one resolution that all caregivers should make.. This year it’s about self-identifying yourself as a caregiver, seeking support and accepting help.

With the holidays behind us, it’s time to turn our attention to tax season. While thinking about preparing the paperwork can be daunting, getting an early start not only helps to minimize stress but it also ensures there is time to look into the financial supports available to caregivers.

Young Carers:
The Invisible Population
This month The Ontario Caregiver Organization is recognizing Bell Let’s Talk (Jan 30) and Young Carers Awareness Day (Jan 31). Together they provide the opportunity to join the conversation and shine a much-needed light on the mental health impacts that many young carers experience.

We Want to Hear From You.
The Ontario Caregiver Organization is here to help caregivers. Our mission is to enhance the caregiving experience for ordinary people including children and youth who are caring for family members, partners, friends and neighbours, who have physical and/or mental health needs.

There will be opportunities for caregivers to contribute to our work through various advisory groups. These opportunities will be easily accessible to caregivers in a variety of ways. Watch for more information in the coming months.

As a new organization, we want to understand how to best share information about caregiving in Ontario, the supports and services available and what we’re working on to enhance the caregiving experience. We invite caregivers to take this short survey to get us started.
