Lessons on wildfire resilience from a 4,000-acre forest lab
For more than 50 years, forestry researchers have used Blodgett Forest Research Station as a living laboratory to study how different land management treatments – including prescribed burning, restoration thinning and timber harvesting – can reduce the risk of severe wildfire and improve a forest's resilience against climate change. UC Davis identifies wheat gene that increases yield
A team of researchers, led by Jorge Dubcovsky, found a gene – WAPO1 – that controls the maximum number of grains in a wheat spike. The gene discovery could allow farmers to grow more food without increasing land use. Dubcovsky is an Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) faculty member; UC ANR is composed of UC Cooperative Extension advisors and specialists and AES faculty members. Read more.

As many as a quarter of California’s species exist in Sonoma Valley, a place that comprises only a tenth of 1% of California’s entire land area.
