JULY 2025 NEWSLETTER

Connecticut Clearinghouse is a library and resource center for information on substance use and mental health disorders, prevention, health promotion and wellness, harm reduction, treatment and recovery, and other related topics.

UPCOMING EVENTS AND TRAININGS

This session will take a closer look at how student well-being, family involvement, and school support all work together. Aimed at all educators, families, and school leaders, we’ll explore how teaming up across home and school can boost mental health, help students stay safe, and support learning.

We’ll talk about how schools, families, and communities can work together to improve student mental health, reduce risky choices, and help kids succeed in school.

You’ll walk away with simple, practical ideas to build stronger connections between educators and families—and create a more supportive space for all students.

Make time for your personal wellness and join us to experience sound healing, with Taylor Milton.

Sound healing, also known as vibroacoustic therapy, may include the use of instruments such as Tibetan singing bowls to induce deep relaxation and meditation.

Studies have shown that sound healing offers benefits such as stress reduction, mood regulation, and pain relief.

According to the National Council on Aging, up to 25% percent of adults 65 and older are living with a mental health condition such as anxiety or depression. Rates of self-identification and treatment are low in this demographic.

One in 11 adults over age 60 had a substance use disorder in 2022 (National Survey on Drug Use and Health). Common risk factors for substance use conditions in this population include bereavement, forced retirement, and health problems.

Mental Health First Aid for Older Adults stresses how to have empathy for older adults who are dealing with mental health and substance use challenges.
