Suicide can be a devastating, life-changing loss. Everyone's grief is unique. Support is available. Healing Conversations, from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), is a one-time visit (phone, virtual, in-person) that connects those who have lost a loved one to suicide with trained volunteers who are also survivors of suicide loss.

AFSP events for survivors of suicide loss in Connecticut can be found here.

The CT Suicide Advisory Board website offers resources for survivors of suicide loss.

Prolonged Grief, described as pervasive and intense grief that disrupts daily life, affects 10-20% of bereaved people. The Center for Prolonged Grief at Columbia University, offers resources and training for clinicians, as well as helpful information and guides for grievers.

If you are in a crisis, call 988 or text TALK to 741741.

TRANSGENDER AWARENESS WEEK

November 13-19

Transgender is an umbrella term for people whose gender identity or expression differs from those typically associated with the sex assigned to them at birth. People who are transgender are members of every community. They are diverse, come from all walks of life, and include people of all races and ethnicities, all ages, and socioeconomic statuses.

Connecticut Clearinghouse library resources support prevention and mental health professionals who work with people who identify as transgender, gender diverse, and non-binary.

No Vape November is a great opportunity to remind youth that vaping is not harmless. Check out the Know Ur Vape Campaign website for information and free posters to order or download and share.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported in 2023 that 1 in 10 high school students and 1 in 22 middle school students had used electronic cigarettes in the past 30 days.

90.3 percent of high school students and 87.1 percent of middle school students who used tobacco products in the past 30 days used flavored tobacco in that time, notable because flavorings may make tobacco use more appealing to youth.
