BE IN THE KNOW!

Broomfield Early Childhood Council celebrates Prevent Child Abuse Awareness month in April! On April 5th, we planted sustainable metal pinwheels at partner locations to symbolize the whimsical, enchanting nature of children. As a community, we have the ability to support parents going through hard times with accessible resources that are included in the Five Protective Factors.

With the Five Protective Factors in place, the incidents of abuse and neglect significantly reduce as it gives parents tools and social connections as they continue to raise their children. Although the plastic pinwheels were given out to children, we will continue to grow our sustainable pinwheels and ensure a commitment that all children will be valued, healthy, and thrive.

Early Childhood Education is a tough and rewarding field. They are the agents who shape the lives of our young children and ensure that they are receiving not only social/emotional and academic education, but also building their brains to understand trust and love. Child care also serves to support the parents, who can sometimes feel overwhelmed between a career or all the strife life can throw at them. A critical professional to support our next generation.

However, nearly 10% of our early childhood educators left the field in the last year. Our families are really feeling the impact. With the American Rescue Plan, our State received $4 million in federal COVID aid to support industry recovery and ensure trained teachers for the entre of Universal Preschool in 2023.

Colorado Chalkbeat writes more about the incentives teachers are receiving and if the incentives are enough to support our ECE field.
