The Williston Convention and Visitors Bureau and the North Dakota Chokecherry Festival Committee will host the 11th annual family-style celebration of the state fruit on Friday and Saturday at Harmon Park.   While the festival celebrates the chokecherry as the state fruit of North Dakota, it also honors the accomplishments of local youth. After all, it was a sixth grade class in Williston that petitioned the state to designate the state fruit in 2007, and succeeded.  The festival will kick off Friday with a 1,000 Burger Feed at 4 p.m. sponsored by Nemont.  American State Bank will offer free ice cream sundaes with chokecherry syrup. Crosby Celebration draws Large Crowd
Crosby Journal

Hundreds of people visited Crosby to tour the Divide County Courthouse expansion and participate in the all class reunion Aug. 4-5.
Standing at the end of Main Street, the Divide County Courthouse appears like the visual roots of Crosby. At least Joan Kading thinks so. "I was born here," she said. "Mother and I left when I was 6 weeks old." A self-described "war baby," Kading said once she was old enough to travel, she and her mother, the former Myrtle Granrud, went to Sioux Falls, where her father, Vern Johnson, was stationed. Following his discharge from the service, the family moved to Everett, Wash. "I spent summers here, with my grandparents and cousins," Kading said. "If my father came along, we drove, and if not, we rode the train." To read the full story, sign in to our online edition.
