CONNECTING OUR COMMUNITY:
Building a Stronger Tompkins County Together
WELCOME TO UNITED WAY OF TOMPKINS COUNTY'S
NEW BI-MONTHLY NEWSLETTER!
Twice a month we invite you to learn more about various UWTC partners who, like you, are coming together to build a stronger Tompkins County and support our neighbors as they pursue more sustainable and joy-filled lives.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month...
AND we want to recognize our funded partner Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes (CRCFL) because no one should face cancer alone.

CRCFL creates an inclusive, welcoming community of support for people living with and affected by cancer, in which the perspectives and needs of those they serve are heard and respected.
Cancer Resource Center offers support services for individuals affected by cancer and their families. They offer 1-to-1 support, support groups, peer to peer support, and wellness programs. During this time of COVID-19 they offer these services remotely to ensure the health and wellbeing of all.
For more information visit crcfl.net or call 607-277-0960.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month...
AND we want to recognize our funded partner The Advocacy Center because everyone has the right to be safe.

The Advocacy Center is the only provider of domestic and sexual violence services in Tompkins County. They are committed to providing compassionate, trauma informed, survivor focused services and education. The Advocacy Center works towards a community where all are free from violence in their homes, relationships and life.

The Advocacy Center offers support services for individuals affected by domesitic or sexual violence as well as their friends and families. They offer a 24 hour hotline, safe confidential shelter, assistance developing safety plans, and support navigating victims health services and the NYS Office of Victim Services.
During this time of COVID-19 the ability to remain safe has been complicated by "stay at home" requests. In response to a growing need for support and services, The Advocacy Center has recently updated its 24 Hour Hotline technology to better respond to the large increase in calls that have been making it hard for survivors to reach an advocate immediately when the line was in use. CALL THE HOTLINE AT 607-277-5000.

October is Substance Abuse Prevention Month...
AND we want to recognize our funded partner Alcohol & Drug Council of Tompkins County (the Council) because everyone deserves sobriety and good health.

The Council provides information, education, counseling and referral services for area residents and organizations. They view addiction as a progressive, treatable disease with recognizable symptoms. By providing prevention, education and counseling services to individuals and families, the Council strives to provide people with the support necessary for sobriety and good health.
During this time of COVID-19, the Council is offering telephone and video health services 7 days/week. These services include Assessments, Medication Assisted Treatment, Individual Counseling Sessions, Group Counseling Sessions, Referrals, and Free Individual Narcan Trainings & Narcan Kits.
