Wines in the Wild a Record-Breaking Success! | |
SCCF’s 14th annual Wines in the Wild was a huge success! A sold-out crowd attended the Nov. 17 event presented by Bank of the Islands at the Bailey Homestead Preserve.
Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and guests, the event raised a record-breaking amount of sponsorship fees, ticket sales, and auction proceeds, netting out to more than $110,000. Of that amount, $42,785 was raised to help replace the Native Plant Propagation Facility at our Native Landscapes & Garden Center. Attendees who contributed to the cause received a glowing wine glass to show their support, giving the event a fun, festive feel.

Protect Captiva Coalition Website & Facebook Page are LIVE!
We’re excited to announce the Protect Captiva Coalition's new website and Facebook page! Now, there will be even more ways to access the latest information, engage, and get the word out about preventing increased building heights and density on Captiva.
Check out our new website, www.ProtectCaptiva.org! Here, you will find the latest information and resources about our efforts to protect our beautiful island community.
Please follow and like us on Facebook! This is where our community can join together and show why the Lee County Commissioners should stand with our near-universal opposition to the proposed amendments. You can help spread the word by sharing our posts, or by posting your own reasons for opposing the amendments. Please use the hashtag #ProtectCaptiva.
Thank you to everyone who has joined our mission to protect the character and safety of our barrier island. We’re grateful for your support and look forward to continuing to work together to Protect Captiva!

Meet the Natives:
Quailberry
A very attractive, yet underutilized native plant, quailberry (Crossopetalum ilicifolium) is a great groundcover that is very drought tolerant once established. Quailberry can also be used as a border plant along sidewalks or driveways — best planted in groupings for a nice effect. Its distinctive features are its festive holly-like leaves as well as its showy red berries which birds like. It likes full sun to partial shade conditions as well as dry soils.
