Connecting at ELC
for June 13, 2021
Greetings from Pastor Mark
Fellow ELC Brothers and Sisters,

First of all, please know how much all of the condolences, prayers, and acts of kindness mean to our family in the recent news of the death of my sister, Barb. God is truly comforting and carrying us through these times. We’re blessed to be part of such a caring, loving Church Family!

We want everyone to get fully engaged in the next sermon series, “Who is Jesus to You?” based on the Gospel of Mark. This week’s message will focus on the Parable of the Seed Growing and the Mustard Seed from Mark 4:26-34. We encourage everyone to read the Gospel of Mark, which they calculate takes just 90 minutes for the average reader. In just one and half hours you’ll be able to read the entire Gospel of Mark, so perhaps you’ll be able to do this in just one sitting. If time doesn’t permit this, please read Mark 4:26-34 to allow the seeds of truth to go deeper into the soil of your heart.

See you Sunday,
Pastor Mark

A new Summer Weekend Worship schedule is coming soon! Beginning this coming Saturday, June 19th, there will be a Saturday Service from 4:30-5:30pm with an alternate style of worship. Utilizing liturgical elements with varied hymns, songs, and choruses, as well as Holy Communion on scheduled weekends, this new service will provide worshippers another option for their weekly worship. These more casual services each weekend will be different, but the sermons will be the same on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Sr. Pastor working with the Ad Hoc Staffing Committee and upon review by the Board of Directors is posting the part-time paid Women’s Care Ministry Team Leader position. Copies of the position description are available at the link below or the Connection Center. Applications will be received by the Sr. Pastor until Sunday, June 27th.

Given the recent outbreak of a second surge of COVID cases in India, we will be partnering with India Transformed (United Evangelical Missions India) to provide COVID Kits to families in need in India. You can help to bless families in need. Please take a newsletter from the Pack-n-Play in the Fellowship Hall to find out about the needs of our local pregnancy resource center. You can place donated items into the Pack-n-Play, and each month those items will be taken to the Miami Valley Women's Center. Thank you for being a Gospel-motivated voice for life! If you have questions, please contact Kim Merritt, 937-294-1566 or
Lutherans for Life "Life Quote"
for 6/13/2021:

“It’s a terrible thing to see any life that is used and abused instead of being protected and cared for. The value of life should not be based on the benefits it can offer. So we pray to the Lord to move all people to value and appreciate all life as God’s gift.” Rev. Peter Sulzle, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls, Minnesota

Connection Activity - Neighborhood Block Parties
Nothing says SUMMER like a block party! And many neighbors will be eager and ready to gather together these coming months. Here are easy steps to planning:
  • Pick a date that works for most of your neighbors
  • Contact your city officials to determine your neighborhood's guidelines. Usually the city will supply the barricades (and Kettering even supplies ice-cream to its first applicants!)
  • Notify your neighbors of day and time

Spending time with our neighbors deepens friendships, which paves the way for more easily sharing the Gospel of our Lord Jesus!
