Connecting at ELC
for November 29, 2020
Greetings from Pastor Mark
Fellow Worshipers,

The Advent and Christmas Season begins with the First Sunday in Advent, as we begin consideration of “The Jesse Tree” on November 29th. We’re excited for another Emmanuel Advent with devotions provided by the members of our Church Family. The main prophetic scripture for “The Jesse Tree” from the Old Testament Prophet Isaiah is in the eleventh chapter as we read, “There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.” This prophecy points to the coming Messiah and Christ, the Lord Jesus, who is from the lineage of Jesse, the father of King David. To trace “The Family Tree” for “The Jesse Tree,” we’ll need to go back to the beginning and move forward from there. Please read the early chapters of the Book of Genesis, with special focus on Chapter 1:11-13 and 3:1-24 as we share the message, “The Tree is Needed.”

We want to remind all that this Sunday, November 29th there will be the “Farewell and Godspeed” for Adreel and Sahreem George. Any cards and gifts you wish to provide need to be given directly to the two of them, since we’ll not be handling these items through the ELC office.

“The Jesse Tree” Midweek Advent Services begin this coming Wednesday, December 2nd. Due to recent advisories from public health officials, we've decided that the Advent Services will be online only, and will be broadcast at noon and 7pm each Wednesday. In the coming Sunday and Wednesday services, we’ll be adding an ornament to “The Jesse Tree” as we move closer to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. If you haven't already, make sure you pick up your "Jesse Tree" family devotion kit in the fellowship hall this Sunday.

Worshiping the Lord with All of You,
Pastor Mark

Soups 'n Sweets Sale
Order Deadline is this Sunday, Nov 29th

We are now taking orders for the Christmas Soups 'n Sweets Sale. Order quarts of soup, specialty desserts and pies, and mini cheese balls - individually or by the bundle.

Proceeds will be used for ELC's Lutheran Women in Missions projects. More information please contact Christine Tripp - tripp.cl@gmail.com
Connection Group Gift Idea:
"LWML Soups & Sweets!"

The yummy holiday foods being prepared by our special LWML ladies make great gifts for neighbors, family or friends, and coworkers (We know of one family that placed 7 orders for Penny's almond toffee so that they may pass along the sweet blessing). Remember to say a prayer over these gifts as you give them, asking God to help the recipients know personally the best gift of all, Jesus our Savior!

And… since the proceeds go to ELC missions, you will be sharing Gospel Love in 2 ways… with those receiving the food gifts and with those receiving the money gifts.

This Sunday, 29, is the last day to order so make sure to stop by the table in the narthex, or order online now!

Share your connection ideas with Randy Holdeman, ELC Director of Connection Groups, rholdeman@emmanuellc.org.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Volunteer staffing for services is an important part of worship on Sunday mornings. We have volunteer needs in many areas and would ask for congregants who have returned to in-person worship to prayerfully consider serving one Sunday per month. Volunteers are most critically needed on the Audio/Visual team and on the 11:00 service Worship team, but also as Ushers, Greeters, Cantors, Lectors, and at the Connection Center for both services.

Please contact Pastor Mark, Randy Holdeman, or John Cross in the church office at 937-434-1798 or office@emmanuellc.org.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR WILLINGNESS TO SERVE
Flowers for this Sunday, November 29
are given to help us remember God's grace and
love, asking Him to prepare our hearts as He
prepared all of history to receive the gift of His Son.
"Life Quote" for 11-29-2020

“Christians engage in adopting not only because we desire to raise children but also—and above all—because the Most High desires their survival and salvation. We adopt because we have been so adopted. We adopt because little ones need homes. We adopt because we have homes and families to share. Life issues mean more than just political debates. Life issues involve more than just personal choices or someone else’s problems. Life issues are always people and Gospel.”
Rev. Michael W. Salemink, Executive Director of Lutherans For Life
