This week we're presenting ArtSpace Maynard and 6 Bridges Gallery, Boston Sculptors Gallery and Portland Museum of Art.
These three shows are celebrations of textiles, weaving, fabrics and fibers. From a cross-section of modern fiber art that gives artists free reign to create, to an exploration of the cross between fabric and ceramic, to the evolution of hundreds of years of indigenous techniques, these exhibitions put sculpture and textiles at the forefront.

ArtSpace Maynard and 6 Bridges Gallery present Untangled: Original Fiber, a juried showcase of 27 textile and fiber works by 28 artists. Artists were "invited to submit works in fiber in every shape and form," according to a curatorial statement. The show is curated by artist and professor Janet Kawada. Aside from the stipulation that all works must be in fiber, artists were free to run wild and create quilts, sculptures and anything else in any fiber technique. While this show is hosted in conjunction between ArtSpace Maynard and 6 Bridges Gallery, the show is hosted at 6 Bridges Gallery. The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 6 Bridges Gallery is located at 77 Main St., Maynard MA. For more information, please visit here.

Boston Sculptors Gallery presents Keri Straka: Biological Tithing, a show that combines textiles and ceramics to create "clusters of cells, tissue, organs, and bones, while posing intimate questions about the anatomy of the human soul as witnessed by the aging human body," according to a curatorial statement. Artist Keri Straka, a professor at Framingham State University, uses delicate, organic shapes created from fabrics and hard, striking ceramic accents to muse on the concept of tithing, "wondering whether molted cells could be collected and used to patch and protect skin as it becomes threadbare with age or illness." The gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Boston Sculptors Gallery is located at 486 Harrison Ave., Boston, MA. For more information, please visit here.

Portland Museum of Art presents Jeremy Frey: Woven, the first retrospective of a Wabanaki artist in a fine art museum in the United States, according to the museum. Jeremy Frey is a seventh-generation basket maker who is "one of the most celebrated Indigenous weavers in the country." His work is meticulously detailed and pushes the boundaries of what is possible in his medium. "“I try to create a newer and more elaborate version of my work each time I weave," said the artist. The museum is open Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with free admission from 4 to 8 p.m. Portland Museum of Art is located at 7 Congress Square, Portland, ME.
