A Message from Community’s Moderator, Susie Mathern…

In accordance with Community’s Bylaws, on Sunday at both worship services, I announced a special Administrative Council meeting to take place on Monday, August 31 at 6:00 p.m. The specific purpose of this special meeting is for the Search and Call Committee to report on the search process and recommend a candidate to be the ninth senior minister of Community Christian Church. If the council approves the recommendation, they will advance the candidate to the congregation next month for a special congregational meeting after an opportunity to meet the candidate. As I’ve emphasized throughout this process, the need for confidentiality still applies, as the candidate’s current congregation is unaware of this development until after the Administrative Council has approved a call for the congregation to approve. We will have more details about our candidate contingent on the approval of the Administrative Council and look forward to this next step in our transition.

Gratefully,

Susie Mathern, Moderator

Earlier this year, Community was invited to participate in a pilot project with Christian Century, the premiere progressive, independent religious magazine devoted to helping people think critically and live the Christian faith thoughtfully. Due to Rev. Shanna’s sabbatical, we are late in getting started in our participation. We have digital access to the magazine, with some limited edition of the print versions. Additionally, each month, we’ll get a “study guide” of sorts for conversations and also, action items. We’d love to have as many participants as possible but want to make sure we can accommodate everyone and possibly create more than one group. Click the link below to register your attendance.

Note: This form has been updated to include your name in registration.

Be sure to join us on September 1st for Good News Crew, a time for our older folk to gather. Lunch will be from 2 Sisters and per request, Rev. Shanna will be doing end of life and funeral planning take two.

Our Steeple of Light Art Gallery's latest show has been installed. Be sure to check out

Debbie Scott Williams and Elizabeth Stockton's "Until Everybody's Free: Prompts and Gentle Reminders," located above the Narthex.

Our 8:30 am Morning Glory service in the Bonfils Chapel features worship, scripture, Community reflection and more. Volunteer to be a part of leading this service as we embrace all gifts in this congregation. Use the Google Doc below to fill your name in wherever you feel called to help serve.

Dedicate the Steeple of Light

For $75 for a weeknight and $150 for a weekend, you can dedicate our Steeple of Light to shine in honor or memory of a loved one. Dedications are listed in our Friday email and on our social media channels as well as our pre-service slides.
