Connecting the Dots
Welcome to our June newsletter!

Wisconsin CONNECT is a collaborative. We seek to provide technical assistance and training opportunities for substance use prevention and treatment grantees, providers, clinicians, social workers, and support staff.

We draw on local and national academic and community resources to reduce and prevent substance use and improve overall health and wellness in Wisconsin.

To that end, we want to help you connect the dots with this newsletter. It is a tool to support our efforts to promote new research, share tools and trainings that aim to help you engage in different communities, enhance practice and improve the health of your clients and program participants.

FASD Self-Paced Training Series

Many medical, allied health care providers, educators, and others work with individuals affected by prenatal alcohol exposure—diagnosed or undiagnosed—but may lack training to identify, refer, and/or provide effective services. Few agencies offer FASD training to address these important issues.

This FASD self-paced learning series helps decrease the knowledge gap by providing on-demand educational opportunities to learn more about the prevention, identification, and treatment of FASD.

Improving Racial Equity through Public Policy

Thursday, June 8
 9:00am-11:00am

Systematic inequities continue to plague the United States in housing, education, employment, and wealth, among other areas. While efforts over the past decades to address these issues have resulted in some progress, they have failed to substantially narrow the gaps that exist along racial lines. There remain deep and enduring variations in the life outcomes of racial and ethnic groups in the United States. On June 8, as part of the 14th annual A. Alfred Taubman Forum on Public Policy, Governance Studies at Brookings will host a virtual discussion on ways to improve racial equity in America. Experts will present ideas on ways to mitigate bias and discrimination and generate greater equity in social, economic, and political outcomes. This online discussion will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on June 8.

Movie Corner
There will be a movie screening of Love in the Time of Fentanyl at the 2023 Harm Reduction Conference. After a dinner on their own, attendees are invited to come back for a viewing of this documentary with discussion to follow.
