CLASS OF 2021 CELEBRATES WITH DRIVE-IN COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
Nearly 3,000 degrees and certificates were awarded to College of Lake County students this year. They joined the growing Lancer alumni community of more than 70,000 graduates across Lake County and the country. One-third of students graduating earned their associate in arts degree and another third achieved a short-term certificate.

Over 400 graduates participated in a drive-in commencement ceremony at the Grayslake campus May 15. The big-screen parking lot celebration complied with health and safety guidelines during the pandemic. Socially distanced graduates proudly crossed the stage with faculty members cheering them on inside and outside the Physical Education Center.
CLC EXPANDS INTERNATIONALIZATION WITH FULBRIGHT TO SOUTH KOREA
College of Lake County International Student Advisor Lindsey Hobson was awarded the Fulbright U.S.-Korea International Education Administrators Award. She’ll travel with a group of higher education administrators to South Korea in June 2022 for a two-week seminar. The trip’s goal is to establish a reciprocal partnership opening doors for CLC students to study abroad and learn from Korean culture.

“The best form of global diplomacy is human diplomacy,” said Hobson, who is eager to represent community colleges on this international delegation. “Opportunities like these reinvent international education as global engagement.”
$3M IN FEDERAL EMERGENCY FUNDS AVAILABLE TO CLC STUDENTS
CLC was awarded $11,539,049 from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) II. $2,486,521 in emergency financial aid grants were automatically awarded to students who demonstrated exceptional financial need. College leadership designated an additional $3 million from the institutional portion of HEERF II to assist students with emergency needs including tuition, course materials, technology and living expenses.

“We increased the student portion of the federal funds to provide nearly $6 million in student resources. With no increase in tuition rates and fees for the upcoming academic year, we are doing all we can to address affordability for students," said CLC President Dr. Lori Suddick.
SAVE TIME AND MONEY WITH A START IN LEGAL STUDIES
A working mother of nine was one of 37 students who graduated from the legal studies program at the college this spring. Katherine Swopes finished her certificate with a 4.0 grade point average and intends to use her legal studies education to work in the public interest and further access to justice and social equity causes.

A Waukegan resident originally from North Chicago, Swopes earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting after high school. She took one summer class at CLC to help complete her degree within four years. But she didn’t know she’d be back for more as an adult.

FAST AND FREE COVID-19 SALIVA TESTING OFFERED AT CLC THROUGH SHIELD ILLINOIS
College of Lake County now offers free COVID-19 testing at the Grayslake Campus on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting May 17, 2021. Testing is conducted in Room 112 at the University Center of Lake County, located at 1200 University Center Drive near the Washington Street entrance. CLC is one of the first community college sites in Illinois to extend free testing to anyone beyond the campus community.

The non-invasive saliva COVID-19 test simply requires an individual to deposit a saliva sample into a provided vial at the testing site. Saliva samples are then transported from UCLC to a network of lab partners who will process the sample and return results to the individual who was tested within 24 hours.
