COLORADO CTE RESPONDS TO COVID-19 PANDEMC
A huge shout-out to all of the CTE programs across Colorado who have put their 3-D printers to work making face shields and other parts to help our healthcare workers stay safe from COVID-19! According to a recent tweet, Cherry Creek Schools have made 1100 head bands for face shields.

Pictured is SAI Division President, Charles Pearl, in the lab at Grandview HS in Cherry Creek. Also helping in this effort are teachers at Cherokee Trail HS, CCIC, Smokey Hill HS, Eaglecrest HS, Warren Tech, Middle Park HS, East Grand MS and probably a whole lot more schools that didn't come up in a quick Google search...thank you ALL for your efforts in the fight against COVID-19!
Also a shout out to all the FCS teachers, students and others using their sewing skills to make cloth masks for family, friends and community members in need. Here are just a few examples of their work. Unknown quantities are being produced - at least 150 masks just from 3 FCS peeps.....
NOTE: CACTE is certain there are other programs, teachers, & students using their CTE skills to help others - this "shout-out" is not intended to be all inclusive; wanted to recognize the difference CTE is making in Colorado!
Technical College of the Rockies is sharing Nursing program hospital beds with the local hospital for overflow and donating scrubs to local nursing homes.
ACTE has a variety of resources available on its COVID-19 page!
ACTE has a quick 3 question survey about your needs during this wacky time - please let your national professional association know what you need and innovative ideas you can share.
Graphic designed by National Family & Consumer Sciences Teacher of the Year, Heather Jones, CFCS, for her middle school students - use it as is, adapt for your students - it's yet another resource as we share ideas for e-learning.

2020 CACTE CareerTech SUMMIT - FAQs
CACTE is acutely aware of the impact COVID-19 is having on school district travel plans for summer. No decision about the 2020 Summit has been made yet - lots of options are being explored.

Your CACTE Executive Committee will hold its Spring Planning Retreat virtually on April 25. As you might expect, a major topic will be plans for the 2020 CACTE CareerTech Summit. The CACTE Board and CTE Directors across the state are being surveyed to gather input for discussion during the retreat.

Summit registration IS OPEN, with most people choosing to mark "Pay by check"....although you are welcome to pay via PayPal.

The Call for Proposals is also open- the 4/16 due date is a bit variable right now.... ;-) We welcome your submissions for high quality programming for the 2020 Summit. Don't be shy - you have lots to share with fellow CTE educators from around the state - get those proposals turned in!

We are hopeful in an uncertain situation....
  • Registration for attendees is OPEN - PLEASE read the info on the website BEFORE entering the registration website - it will make your process much easier!
  • Talk with your CTE director about paying for the conference - each district is different in what they will/will not cover for the Summit. There is a "pay by check" option that your district may want you to use this year.....
  • Call for Presentation Proposals is OPEN through April 16...or some date in that vicinity ;-)
  • Hotel links are OPEN - room rate is $139 plus $7 per night/per vehicle parking fee
  • See tentative schedule on website - click green button below
  • Exhibitor registration is open
FROM THE CACTE AWARDS COMMITTEE:

The Application Portal is NOW AVAILABLE on the CACTE website (EDUCATE, CACTE Excellence Awards). Divisions, plan to submit your winners to CACTE level!

Regardless of the current circumstances, CACTE wants to recognize outstanding CTE teachers, counselors, administrators, members, students and alumni! Please take a few minutes to complete the application - it's not as scary as it may look. Notify Debbie ([email protected]) if you have questions or need help. Get a couple of people to write recommendation letters and away you go! Although it is fun to make awards a surprise, sometimes the best application has the help of the nominee! ;-) And it is perfectly acceptable to self-nominate.

ADVOCATE
There are lots of ways to ADVOCATE for CTE and Colorado ACTE! You don't always have to be in downtown Denver or in Washington, DC. What can YOU do to spread the word about how CTE is "Working Wonders"?
Unfortunately, the f2f 2020 NPS was cancelled by ACTE due to the COVID-19 situation. On March 31, CACTE members still connected with 6 of the 9 Congressional Delegation via telephone to share the good news about Colorado CTE!

Thanks to members Kimberly Baldwin, Mimi Leonard, Charles Pearl, Jessica Teal and Debbie Nelson for talking with staffers for Representatives Ken Buck, Jason Crow, Doug Lamborn and Ed Perlmutter as well as Senators Michael Bennet and Cory Gardner.

Your efforts on our behalf are appreciated!
