Clark County Small Claims Update

Several legislative bills passed in 2019 that had impact on small claim case filing. 2SHB 1048 increased the filing fee for small claims cases which still allows for counties to assess a dispute resolution fee. The current small claims filing fee for Clark County District Court is now $50.00. This update also created a change in the way small claims judgments are processed, to assist parties in recovering judgments. Once a judgment is entered in the small claims case, the judgment is immediately transcribed to the civil docket and a certified copy provided to the prevailing party at no additional cost. This assists the prevailing party in immediately having the civil case number and certified copy which they need in order to move forward with collection actions on their judgment.

SSB 5621 increased the jurisdiction amount on small claims actions. This bill raises the jurisdiction amount of small claims from the previous $5,000 to $10,000 when the case is brought by a human being. The jurisdiction limit for all other small claims actions remains at $5,000.
