SBCA Gears Up for Satellite and Streaming Tax Fights
Lawmakers in Illinois are weighing a bill that would tax streaming and satellite television users “for the privilege to witness, view, or otherwise enjoy the entertainment.” These taxes directly impact your customers and future sales, worse still cable companies are not taxed giving them an unfair advantage. Similarly other states have tried or are looking at similar discriminatory taxes. Missouri and Georgia have also recently proposed similar legislation. In fact over the past 10 years there have been more than 50 attempts to unfairly tax your customers. SBCA is working closely with are partners at DISH and ATT to fight these taxes. This effort includes energizing our retail and customer base to help pressure legislators to abandon this tax. To learn more on how you can help contact  info@sbca.org .

What can you do to set your business apart? Manufacturing, distribution and information have all been commoditized. If you are selling something, it's very likely it can be found somewhere else. If you want to make your company stand out, work to build your customer experience. Make customers feel special and go the extra mile – it’ll be remembered. Doing little things right is a key component to building a culture of service within any organization.
SBCA Helps Educate Lawmakers on Advances of Satellite Broadband
Broadband expansion is a top priority with many Governors and state legislators. Millions of dollars are being dedicated to broadband expansion. SBCA has been meeting with these stakeholders to help educate them on the advances and benefits of satellite delivered broadband. In most cases these individuals are not aware of the advances the technology has made in recent years and will continue to do so. The local dealer channel is an important part of this discussion as is our industry’s efforts with disaster response. As part of our outreach effort we are working to ensure that satellite can participate in future state broadband funding efforts which will help improve sales and installation of satellite broadband. This is an ongoing effort and one that SBCA and its staff look forward to promoting.
