“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”
Romans 12:12
Christian community is the place where we keep the flame of hope alive among us and take it seriously so that it can grow and become stronger in us. In this way we can live with courage, trusting that the Holy Spirit is working in and through us, especially when we are together. This also allows us to live in this world without surrendering to the powerful forces constantly seducing us toward despair. That is how we dare to say that God is a God of love when we see hatred all around us. That is why we can claim that God is a God of life even when we see death and destruction and agony all around us, in our schools, in our neighborhoods, and in the media. That is why we can proclaim that God is a God of hope when we suffer and when we doubt because we know that Jesus came to be THE HOPE in which we can rejoice. We say it together. We affirm it in each other. Waiting together for Jesus’ second coming, waiting together for the HOPE of eternal life, we nurture the faith that has already begun, expecting its fulfillment---that is the meaning of friendship, of marriage, community, and the Christian life. So, we rejoice in hope, we are patient in times of trouble, and we are constant in prayer! It is what we do in our Lutheran schools!

News from Alliance Defending Freedom
Some news from Alliance Defending Freedom , an organization which has presented at LEC in previous years, and a great partner:

President Trump recently announced three major actions to protect religious freedom.

Two of these actions are inspired by Trinity Lutheran v. Comer, a case ADF argued—and won—at the U.S. Supreme Court in 2017! And a case made possible thanks to your prayers and support.

The three actions taken to protect religious freedom:
  1. Ensuring Religious Organizations Are Treated the Same as Secular Ones.
  2. Requiring Public Schools to Respect Students’ Rights to Express Their Faith.
  3. Ordering That Federal Grant Programs Cannot Discriminate Against Religious Schools or Organizations.
The government cannot treat people of faith like second-class citizens. And President Trump’s recent announcement makes that clear.

This is a great day for religious freedom and people of faith in America.

At ADF, we know that when we show up and fight, we can win! And with God’s blessing, we have seen remarkable wins. Legal wins today last for more than a moment in a time. They impact freedom for years, decades, and hopefully for generations to come.

You helped us win Trinity Lutheran at the Supreme Court in 2017. And today, almost three years later, it’s still having a ripple effect.
