Spotlight on Our Schools
Thank you for joining us in prayer and thanksgiving to God for all of our PSD schools over the course of the 2020-2021 school year. What a year it has been! We will continue to pray for you over the summer, and we look forward to starting up our prayers for specific schools again in August!
Lutheran Educators Conference (LEC) 2021
This November, LEC will be held on-site at the JW Marriott Desert Springs! We are super excited about this! Our theme this year is Limitless from Ephesians 3:20-21. We look forward to a time of Spiritual Nurture, Professional Growth, and Fellowship. Your LEC Committee is focusing this year’s speakers and sessions into three specific topics: Mental Health, Screen Time Awareness, and Racial Relationships. We are building our line-up of presenters and will begin to share those with you next week!

The cost for LEC this year will be $150 per person and hotel rooms will be $104 per night. Be sure to set your school calendars for November 21-23 to allow for all of your staff to be able to attend and participate in the conference this year! It will be an extra special gathering to be sure!
TLC Grant
The July TLC Grant application window is now open! The TLC Grant is an educational grant on behalf of the Trinity Lutheran Church Educational Endowment Fund (Reseda, CA). This grant has been established as a gift to the Church for the continuation of excellent Lutheran education in the Pacific Southwest District. This is a competitive grant based on the strength of the application and is open to all schools, K-12. Since the inception of this grant in January 2016, $276,842 has been granted to 45 different schools in the district. You are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to enhance the education of your students!

Please click here to be directed to the application form. The deadline to submit your application is July 31. Recipients will be notified in mid-August.

Check out the video below from Christ, Costa Mesa, CA, who used their TLC funds to create a garden!
June Devotion on Website
The June devotion is now on our website. It is written by Leah Tornow, teacher at Christ Lutheran School in Costa Mesa, CA, and titled Changes, Challenges, Endurance, Blessings. Click here to read it. Thank you, Leah, for this reminder to all educators: "You have provided the special conditions that each special child of God needs to grow, and you have been used greatly by Jesus to do His work."
Hearts for Jesus - LeadaChild
We are still receiving contributions for LeadaChild! If your school hasn’t yet contributed and you have one or more chapels left, it isn’t too late! Also, if your church is hosting VBS in the months of June or July, see if a collection could be taken there as well! Teachers Helping Teachers is also still an option – maybe your staff could do an end-of-the-year $1 per year of service or $1 per student in their class. Any and all contributions will help!

Amount raised to date: $12,379.12. We will continue to accept contributions from schools through July and send our district contribution on the first of August. Remember – our district goal is $30,000 – how can your school be a part of reaching this goal?!
Administrators Leadership Conference
Registration is now open for our annual Administrators Leadership Conference (ALC) July 21-23, 2021, at the Hyatt Indian Wells! This year’s theme is Refresh! based on Isaiah 43:18-19: “See, I am doing a new thing…”  Pastor Drew Ross from Christ, Costa Mesa, CA, will be leading the opening worship. For more information and to register, click here to be directed to the ALC page on the School Ministries website. Details are still being finalized and will continue to be added, but you are able to register for the conference and book your hotel rooms now!

Important Call & Retirement Information
The following are reminders that help the district office keep track of educator changes, especially called workers. We appreciate knowing the changes of all workers, but especially if workers are on the LCMS roster of commissioned ministers.
  • Please advise when a call to your school is accepted so we can prepare installation authorization paperwork and the needed paperwork is processed for the worker.
  • Please advise the district office of called workers who are leaving your staff. If a called worker is retiring, please advise the effective date and if special recognition is planned. Lutheran educator retirements are a special event.
  • Please use the current call document, version 4.9.2. If you need preparation or download information, please contact Ellen at ellen.pratt@psd-lcms.org or Kim at kim.violette@psd-lcms.org in School Ministries.
PSD Retirements

TEC21
Read closely! This is a last call and a first opportunity!

TEC21 is finalizing Season 13 cohorts and determining what to do in workshop centers where there are just a few registrants. NOW IS THE TIME to place your late registration even if you register while you determine your funding solution and which teachers to send.

And, if you missed the exciting announcement, TEC21 will introduce a STEM Education Workshop Program in Season 13.

This TEC21 cohort opportunity for 10 Lutheran school educators kicks off with the Summer STEM Academy in Fremont, Nebraska, June 28-June 30, 2021, and includes monthly virtual sessions and between-session asynchronous and synchronous support beginning in September. Facilitated by Brett Meyer—STEM expert, TEC21 STEM education cohort director and coordinator of STEM education at Trinity Lutheran School in Fremont, Nebraska—the STEM cohort is designed for teachers with varying degrees of proficiency for this new way of teaching.

Unlike a conference or webinar, this new TEC21 cohort provides a holistic view of STEM in education. Powerfully delivered through a Lutheran, Christian worldview, it will give your students the skills to solve real-world problems.

This is a first-come, first-serve opportunity and registration is underway now for the Summer STEM Academy. To learn more or register your teacher today, simply click here
