Dear Friends:
About 25 percent of family caregivers in the United States are Millennials, those born after 1980. Increased attention by the media, and the publication of two reports by
AARP
and
The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research
have helped shine a spotlight on the plight and contributions of caregivers under 40 years of age.
Millennial caregivers experience many of the same challenges older caregivers face: balancing family, work, and caregiving; avoiding burnout; managing expenses; and finding time for self-care among them. Fortunately, Millennials can benefit from a number of online services, programs, and internet connected devices that were unavailable in previous decades like
online support groups
, in-home sensors, and
webinars.
For both new and seasoned caregivers, FCA also offers
CareJourney
a 24/7
one-stop shop for information, resources, and support.
Sincerely,
Calvin Hu
Education Coordinator

Family Caregiver “Explorer” Opportunity
For the last two years a group of older adults (in their 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s) — the Longevity Explorers — have been providing hands-on help to companies developing products they hope will improve the lives of older adults, and getting compensated for their insights. Now this community of Longevity Explorers is expanding to include caregivers.
Would you like to take part in some of their explorations and share your perspective as a caregiver?
It takes an hour or two and there is compensation.

VA
’
s Caregiver Program Still Dropping Veterans With Disabilities
Last year, NPR correspondent Quil Lawrence published a story on the VA unenrolling veteran caregivers from the Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers program. This program provides caregiver support that can include a stipend, mental health services, training, and respite to caregivers of veterans who were serious injured. Following the story’s publication, the VA paused unenrolling of further veteran caregivers and performed a review. Unfortunately, Lawrence
reports
that some VAs continue to drop eligible caregivers.
With the recent passage of the
VA Mission Act
in June
, all seriously injured veterans are now eligible to apply for the Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers program. Prior to the passage of the VA Mission Act, only veterans injured on September 11, 2001 or after were eligible.
