From the Director | Bridges
On March 26th at approximately 1:30 a.m our region experienced a catastrophe. The Frances Scott Key Bridge was struck by the Dali, an international cargo ship. The bridge instantly collapsed. This tragedy resulted in the loss of life for 6 Individuals and the loss of livelihoods for thousands. As the region recovers from the loss of access to one of the nation's busiest ports and access from the western side of the Patapsco River to the eastern, we reflect on the importance of bridges both literally and figuratively.
|
|
Like the Francis Scott Key Bridge, our role is to connect our clients to the resources they need to grow. Our team along with our operator, the City of Baltimore are here to assist those businesses affected by this tragedy just as we are here for our clients everyday. In this newsletter we have included links to resources for those affected.
April ushers in a season of change. For business owners it is a time to complete our taxes, and take on projects like reviewing our financial statements, updating company policies, accessing employee performance and crafting our plans for the year. Similarly we are experiencing change at MBDA. As a result of challenges to MBDA we are redefining our client base. You will see us using different terminology to describe our clients, Socially Economic Disadvantaged Individuals (SEDI). To learn more, I encourage you to review a statement from our new leader, Eric Morrisett https://www.mbda.gov/acting-under-secretary-minority-business-development-eric-morrissettes-statement-response-nuziard-v)
As always our newsletter is full of useful information, staff highlights, client highlights and important events. I challenge you to take advantage of what is being offered.
