CONNECTIONS | January 2024

From the Director | New Year

Happy New Year! As we step into the promising realms of 2024, we find ourselves at the threshold of new opportunities, fresh challenges, and boundless possibilities. The past year has been a journey of resilience, adaptability, and growth, and we are excited to embark on another chapter with you.

Before we dive into the future, let's take a moment to celebrate the milestones we achieved together in 2023. Whether it was our Minority Made Summit, our CEO Advisory Roundtables, or our one-on-one business counseling sessions we expanded our reach and impact.

The New Year isn't just a change in the calendar; it's an opportunity to set goals, envision achievements, and set the stage for unprecedented success. At the MBDA AMC, we believe in pushing boundaries.

As we embark on this exciting journey, we invite each one of you to be an active participant. Your ideas, enthusiasm, and commitment is integral to our success. Together, we can turn this year into a monumental chapter in the [Company Name] story.

This month we celebrate the life of Martin Luther King and acknowledge the passing of his son, Dexter King, the keeper of the MLK Legacy through his leadership of the King Center in Atlanta. As we honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., a champion of equality, justice, and economic empowerment, let's reflect on how we can contribute to his vision of a society where opportunities are accessible to all.

I want to take a moment to applaud Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) Under Secretary Donald “Don” Cravins who will be stepping down from his role as MBDA Under Secretary. Under Secretary Cravins was the first-ever Under Secretary to lead the bureau, which operates within the U.S. Department of Commerce. During his tenure, the agency helped minority business enterprises secure more than $8.2 billion in capital and private and government contracts. The undersecretary was a real champion and will be missed. To help continue the great work of MBDA, Eric Morrissette, a member of the Department’s senior leadership team and Chief of Staff to Deputy Secretary Graves, will temporarily lead the bureau.

Finally, I want to thank Jamyla Bennu and the Oyin Handmade team for graciously hosting our MBDA AMC Networking event this month. The event attracted clients, advisory board members, and state officials along fora tour of the facility. We look forward to hosting additional client tours during 2024. Stay tuned.
