"Giving"
Our sense of benevolence, sacrifice, altruism, and generosity comes from a desire to share what we have with those in greater need than us. That is a reflection of a God who is generous. How, then, can that generosity be reflected in our response to his love for us (shown conclusively on the cross) and the responsibility that he has given us to build his Kingdom?
2 Corinthians 8:9 (New International Version)

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

2 Corinthians 9:6-11 (New International Version)

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written:

“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”

Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
Join us this Sunday at 9:00 am in the Worship & Youth Center for Fusion, our Sunday morning youth worship service. Fusion is for all students in grades 7-12 and includes donuts, coffee, hot chocolate, juice, student-led worship, and a relevant message from God’s Word!

Questions & Answers
Bring the whole family see if the kids can stump the pastor. Pastor Sunil will blindly pull a treasure from a mystery box of things the children have contributed and see if he can relate that item to a bible story.
Join your voices together with your brothers and sisters as we raise our praise through hymns deeply rooted in our faith and theology. Learn the stories of some of these dearly beloved heart songs. Organ accompaniment.
During the month of October we've been looking at themes of Reflecting God's Activities: Gaining, Going, Generating (with God's Gifting), and Giving. Bring your reflections and questions that these themes have raised in you!

Thank you to all who worship with us in person and online. On Sunday, October 10, over 347 people participated in person or viewed the services online.
Lay Leader Insights: Getting Connected at DUMC
By Laurie Lewis, RN, Minister of Visitation, Lay Leader
There are many way to get connected at DUMC. Being part of a smaller group at church helps fuel your faith and gives you a group of people with whom you can grow. DUMC offers a variety of ways to get involved including bible studies, a book club, support groups, music groups, hospitality ministry, serving as ushers or greeter, teaching/helping with Sunday school or student ministries, and others. All of these are listed in the Guide to Growth in the lobby.

If you are unsure how or where to get involved, take a Spiritual Gifts Inventory found in the lobby or online (click button below). The pastors, Deb Schultheiss (Director of Caring Ministries), and I are all willing to help you find a place at DUMC. Just take one small step and see where God will take you.
Wednesday Morning Bible Study
Living Faith-Fully: Studies in Hebrews 11 and 12
By Pastor Sunil Balasundaram
Wednesdays, October 20-November 17, 10:00 am in Room 2
Is faith “spiritual muscle”? Does it mean that the “more” you have, the more you can do? I lived much of my life with the understanding that the main reason I wasn’t effective enough, or wasn’t able to do much, was because of my small faith. Then I discovered that faith had less to do with what I can or cannot do, and more to do with what an Almighty God of love was waiting to do in my life and ultimately through my life. I got to see the former, but the latter? Not so much! Join me for this 5-part series based on Hebrews 11 and 12 and discover what faith is – how God can “use” faith in you to become and make all the difference.

October 20 – The gift of faith (Hebrews 10:36–11:6)
October 27 – Living as strangers and foreigners (Hebrews 11:8–16)
November 3 – Running Un-wearily (Hebrews 11:39–12:3)
November 10 – Faith-Full Discipline (Hebrews 12:4–13)
November 17 – Faith-Full Worship (Hebrews 12:18–29)
Kingdom Growth Committee: Why We Give
When we give to build God’s Kingdom, our collective gifts are not duplicative but additive in terms of impact. Why? Because all of us have different gifts to offer God, and our strengths balance others' weaknesses.

Our collective gift is so much more powerful than what any one of us can do. Romans 12:8-11 tells us:

If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.

Together we can expand God’s Kingdom!

"Just Talk About It"
One in four teens will experience mental health issues this year, but less than 20% of those will seek help. DUMC feels it is important to raise this issue with youth, parents, teachers, and caregivers through education and discussion.

In partnership with Minding Your Mind, a 501c3 non-profit, whose mission is to use education to reduce stigma and destructive behavior associated with mental health issues, DUMC is hosting two separate 90-minute programs.

Both programs will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at DUMC in the Worship & Youth Center.

These programs will discuss how we can move away from crisis response to prevention through education and will:

  • Help to develop an understanding of the stigma associated with mental health issues among adolescents.
  • Identify risks and protective factors associated with mental health issues.
  • Identify action steps to reduce the stigmas associated with mental health issues in the community.

Congratulations to Our New Eagle Scouts!
Recently Andrew Dreyzin and Jack Weldon were recognized for their achievement of the highest rank in Boy Scouts, the rank of Eagle Scout.

Both Andrew and Jack have been members of Boy Scout Troop 6 for nearly six years. They both are currently seniors at Central Bucks East High School. Jack's Eagle project has been improving the parking lot for the local VFW chapter. Andrew's Eagle project was installing QR code markers throughout the Peace Valley Nature Center trail system.

Congratulations, Andrew and Jack,
on this significant achievement!
Did you know that Doylestown UMC charters Scout Troup 6 that meets in our building on Monday nights? "What does that mean?", you ask.

Annually Pastor Sunil signs documents that enter DUMC into an agreement to provide Scouting in the community and to the youth we serve, and DUMC appoints a representative to oversee the Scouting program(s). Ralph Giernacky serves as DUMC's Scout Representative. Ralph is also part of DUMC's Administrative Ministries, which helps to keep the channels of communication open in both directions between DUMC and Troop 6.
Above: Andrew Dreyzin and his family. Andrew's father, Alex, (far left) serves as Scout Master for Troop 6.
Above: Jack Weldon and his family

Troop 6 includes both a boy troop and a girl troop, ages 11 to 17. To learn more, plan to attend their open house on Monday, January 10, from 7:30-9:00 pm.
Thank you!
Thanks to Maximuck's Farm Market, Doylestown, for supplying the pumpkins for our fall display in the hanging baskets this season.
October Mission of the Month: The Well
Please give generously to support the mission of The Well in Bucks County.

The Well is a residential safe house where survivors of forced prostitution can work through trauma and rebuild their lives, both physically and emotionally. Survivors can also receive care, training, and support through The Well's "Worth It" program. "Worth It" is an 11-week series of classroom experiences on subjects like trauma, domestic abuse, and general health issues, including suicide prevention. The program connects participants to area service providers and offers information about laws surrounding prostitution and sex trafficking.

The Well is an initiative of the non-profit Worthwhile Wear organization that runs the Worthwhile Wear Thrift Store at 5835 Easton Road, Plumsteadville.

Please give as generously as you can. There will be many grateful hearts at The Well.
