Taco Tuesday Re-cap

Thank you to DUMC for hosting Taco Tuesday for Discovery Service Projects (DSP). A festive time was had by all! $1,140 was raised for a DSP domestic project.

Help Wanted

Since November, Feed My Sheep volunteers at DUMC have been collecting leftover Wawa breakfast sandwiches each Wednesday and delivering them to the New Britain Food Pantry. We are a small group who rotate our one-month commitment to collect on Wednesday mornings. Would you like to help? Do you have an hour on Wednesday AM to collect? It is from the Wawa on North Easton Road. It is a relatively easy process. Contact Lisa Pitts at (267) 261-6683 to get more information or to be involved.

Help Make Online Worship More Engaging at Doylestown UMC

Over the last year, the staff and leadership of Doylestown UMC have been focusing on three key ministry priorities that drive everything we do as a church: being inclusive and welcoming, spiritual development, and outreach & service.

As the staff member overseeing our first priority, I’ve been reading books, attending online trainings, and learning from other churches about how to foster radical hospitality. As an added bonus, our church just completed an All-Church Study that had one week devoted to radical hospitality.

In The Art of Hospitality, Debi Nixon suggests that “Our hospitality can be a bridge that draws people in and encourages them to take a next step of faith, or it can be the barrier where individuals quickly decide to disengage” (p. 12). Yvonne Gentile, also in The Art of Hospitality, asks an important question: “How can we intentionally move online worship from a passive experience (‘watching’ worship that’s happening elsewhere) to a fully engaged experience?” (p. 73).

COMING SOON!

New DUMC App and Database (all will include more giving options)

We are currently in the process of transitioning our databases and creating an app to a new user-friendly system that will also provide more giving options. We will keep you posted when each piece launches and is ready for use. We will operate under our current databases until everything has been transitioned over fully and all of the bugs have been worked out. The new app will be more user friendly and track all of our content in one place. You will be able to track your groups, giving, and areas of service all in one convenient place. Stay tuned for more details.

DUMC is hosting a concert featuring our very own uplifting worship team, Sounds of Faith. Save the date and join us!

FEATURE ARTICLES

Pastor's Corner

Lent is the forty-day period before Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday (March 5). Sundays are not included when we count the forty days, because Sundays commemorate the Resurrection. (That is why we refer to them as Sundays in Lent.) Lent is a time for introspection and repentance, for reflection and taking an inventory of our lives. It began in the Church as a time to prepare for Easter, when Christ-followers renewed their commitment to him, and when new converts were taught about the faith to prepare them for baptism. The observing of the forty days of Lent is an imitation of Jesus’ own withdrawal into the wilderness for forty days after his baptism, which prepared him for ministry.

Lay Leader Insights:

PRAYER IS THE KEY

Keys seem to be going out of style. My vehicle unlocks when I touch the handle and turns on with the push of a button. Some entry doors now have codes or fobs to enter. I can remember the days of carrying lots of keys. Now I only have a front door key, a church key, and a neighbor's key in case of emergency. My key ring consists mainly of fobs and loyalty cards.

DISCOVERY SERVICE PROJECTS

The History of Discovery Service Projects:

Discovery Service Projects (DSP) was established by former DUMC pastor, Rev. Rowland and Barbara Carlson. Following Pastor Carlson’s retirement from the ministry he and Barbara devoted their time to mission work in various countries of Central America and Mexico. Their enthusiasm and dedication in helping others has developed over the past 36 years into an organization that serves internationally and domestically.

"Questions I Dared Ask The Pastor"

(Began February 19)

Here is a list of the dates/topics we'll be discussing: 2/19: Why do I find it difficult to forgive myself even though I am confident that God has forgiven me? How is it possible to leave my past sin and guilt behind?, 2/26: What is the destiny of people outside the Christian Faith but who have a sincere belief in God (even if different from ours)?, 3/5: Why do I need to pray when God, being God, already knows what I need and what is best for me? What does it mean to pray “in God’s Will”?, 3/12: Why do people choose hate when the Great Commandment tells us to “love the Lord your God…” and to “love your neighbor as yourself”? How can we love someone who believes (apart from the Apostles' Creed) the exact opposite of what we believe?, 3/19: Why does God “permit” the suffering of the innocent?).

You can sign up in the lobby or email Pastor Sunil to let us know you're coming. Everyone is welcome, including newcomers!

Email Pastor Sunil for more information.
