Financial Report for the 4 Months Ended April 30

Submitted by Peter Van Dine, Finance Chairperson

and Karen Sablyak, Treasurer

Prayer: We believe in the goodness and generosity of our Lord that He will provide and guide our leadership and congregation. We continue to reaffirm our faith during these difficult financial trials and pray for those also struggling in the world. Lord, we humbly pray that you write on each of our hearts your desires for giving to YOU of our first fruits, so that DUMC can continue to do YOUR work.

Giving: Giving for April was $58K, which was significantly short of our $85K budget; thus, we are ($69K) behind in projected income for the first four months of the year.

Expenses: Overall, expenses are $13K less than budget – we are grateful for the mild winter that saved us $10K in projected snow removal costs. Thank you, Lord Almighty, for sparing us this expense!

Operating Cash: We finished the first four months with a deficit of ($69K) this is more than expected as our income is not increasing and our cash balances are decreasing faster than expected. We need everyone’s prayers and assistance to turn this around.

Summer is right around the corner. Please continue your regular offerings to God so DUMC can continue His work.

“For it is by free grace that you are saved through faith. And this is not of yourselves, but it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8

Flower basket waterers needed

Do you have a green thumb? Do you enjoy the outdoors? We invite you to volunteer at DUMC!

We are in need of more volunteers to help water the flower baskets and urns around the church. We use SignUpGenius to organize the schedule as the flowers need to be watered every day. Each volunteer can pick the dates that work best for them between mid-May and mid-September. If you are interested, please contact Sheri Shifman at [email protected]. Thank you!

Lay Leader Insights:

Grief

Last week I officiated at the funeral of a dear friend, Dino Borghi. He was larger than life in so many ways. In fact, when he loved you it was with his whole heart. So ironic, then, that he died of heart failure. He gave it all away. Dino had asked for a Celebration of Life, a service with good, uplifting music, laughter and good food. And so that's what we did.

I once heard that if we really understood life we would cry when a baby is born (has left God) and rejoice when a loved one dies or goes back to be with God for eternity. Living on earth is full of lessons about living life well, walking with God's guidance, and loving others. Sometimes that means we get our hearts trampled on or broken. Another lesson

May Mission of the Month:

The Synergy Project

May’s mission is The Synergy Project. Synergy is a street outreach program of Valley Youth House. They work with youth ages 24 and below. Synergy works directly on the street with homeless youth living in cars, on the street, couch surfing, or nomadically traveling the country via freight train. Some are runaways, while others may have been or still are trafficked.
