(half-day retreat)
Saturday, October 11, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
DUMC Worship Center
You are invited to join us for a special discipleship training with Rev. Gina Yeske, a United Methodist facilitator from the Greater New Jersey Conference. Together, we’ll explore what it means to grow as Christ-followers, define discipleship, identify signs of spiritual maturity, and consider how our church’s programs align with this vision. A light breakfast, coffee, and lunch will be provided—please indicate any dietary restrictions when signing up. Please SIGN UP HERE.
Come ready to engage with other invested leaders as we seek God’s direction for DUMC’s future. A brief pre-retreat assignment will help us prepare for this important day.

Interested in Handbells?
The Adult Handbell Ensemble and Adult Handbell Choir have rung in the new season. If you have rung bells in the past, or think you might like to try it, please contact one of the ringers or the director, Diana Durbin, (215) 801-0953. It is a fun activity for people who love making music.
The Ensemble meets at 6:30 pm, and the Choir at 7:30 pm on Monday nights, from the second week in September through the second week in May. Both groups ring in worship on the second Sunday every month, and for special occasions. Our membership spans all 3 worship services, and everyone is welcome.

Discover Our Church Library
Rooms 14 & 15
Did you know our church has a library filled with Bibles, Bible study courses, and spiritual books to help you grow in faith? Many in our congregation aren’t aware that this resource is available, and we invite you to stop by and explore it for yourself. To make the library even more welcoming, we are in need of a bookshelf donation. If you have a gently used bookshelf you’d like to donate, please email
John Benson. Your donation will help us better organize and share these spiritual resources with our church family.
Thank you for your generosity!

2025 Middle School Fall Retreat Recap
A few weekends ago (9/26-9/28), the youth went on their annual Middle School Retreat, called Breakaway. This year, we took 10 youth and 4 adults. While we were there, we had a great time playing pool and ping-pong together and even got to fly in the sky on the zip line and rope swing! We also got to enjoy high-energy, Spirit-filled worship and impactful, life-changing messages. These trips continue to be vital to the spiritual formation of our young people, helping them grow deeper in their relationships with one another and with Christ. We can't wait to see how God continues to work in and through the lives of our young people!

Thank you! - Karaoke Night
This past Friday, DUMC hosted our 2nd Karaoke Night. This was just as much fun as our previous one, and we hope to host another in March or April of 2026.
A special thank you to Laurie Lewis, Lenae Baldwin, and Wendy Arnott for your hard work in making this event such a success. An extra big thank you to Melissa Copestake as our MC!

DSP Honor Project - Thank you!
Thank you to all who helped restore Mt.Gilead Community Church in preparation for the Buckingham 325 Celebration. Because of your hard work and dedication, we were able to paint the inside of the church, seal coat the outside, make repairs to the masonry, basement door, and more. The church is ready for our neighbors to visit and learn about this historic stop on the Underground Railroad.
Twenty-five hearty souls from Discovery Service Projects, the LIGHT Youth Ministry from Upper Darby, friends, and neighbors worked last Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Special thanks to Erling Salvesen for organizing and preparing for the work day.
*Mark your calendar - Mt. Gilead is having an open house on Sunday, November 9 at 1:00 pm.
If you would like to be a part of Discovery Service Projects' upcoming events, please contact Erling Salvesen at (267) 663-4282.
Again, thank you for your support,
The Board of Discovery Service Projects and LIGHT Youth Ministry

Financial Report for the Eight Months Ended August 31, 2025
Submitted by: Allen Mason (Finance Chairperson) and Karen Sablyak (Treasurer)
| | |
Income: Income for August was the second lowest of the year at $49K. YTD, we are behind budget by ($220K).
Disbursements: August disbursements were lower than expected. YTD, our disbursements are $29K less than budget since staffing costs & trustee expenses have remained under budget – REJOICE!
Net Cash (Deficit): There was a deficit of ($34K) for the month of August, adding to the YTD negative cash flow of ($180K).
DUMC experienced a very busy summer with youth and children's activities and a successful Peach Festival, which collected more than $9,300. The many hands working behind the scenes to fulfill God’s mission for DUMC are truly a blessing as we remain faithful to God’s plan for DUMC. AMEN!
“Be strong and steady, always abounding in the Lord’s work…. nothing you do for the Lord is ever wasted.” — I Corinthians 15:58

Staff Snapshot:
Brianna Beall
Many of DUMC’s dedicated staff work hard behind the scenes and may not be seen or known by many. We thought you might enjoy getting to know them better, and not just their job responsibilities, but who they really are. We feature different staff members over the year, giving you a little glimpse into what makes them tick, smile, and sometimes laugh and cry.
This month we feature Brianna Beall, our Wedding Coordinator.

Lay Leader Insights:
AUTUMN MASTERPIECE
The story of the colors of autumn amazes me every year. Some leaves are not meant to be green. God designed them in gold, red, orange, and purple—all different colors only seen at this time of year. Leaves are green because of the chlorophyll activated by the sunlight of summer. As sunset comes earlier, there is less chlorophyll, and the real color of the leaves comes through. Then we see the magnificent variety on display. It is like God peeling back layers to show a tree's real beauty.

HOPE INTERNATIONAL
| | | |
Hope International helps people improve their lives and see their dreams fulfilled. They help launch and coach community savings groups, who then choose their own goal to save for and manage their savings. Our goal for this Mission of the Month is to raise $2,700—enough to expand into new regions, support two churches, and launch six new savings groups.
