DUMC - Supporting Hurricane Relief
Our Missions/Outreach Committee has made donations to World Central Kitchen and UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) to aid those impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. We also purchased supplies to create 12 emergency cleaning buckets, which will be distributed by UMCOR. In an intergenerational event, our Wesley group will team up with our youth to assemble the buckets. Please continue to keep those affected in your prayers as this will be a long-term recovery effort.

Financial Report for the Nine Months Ended Sept. 30, 2024
Submitted by:
Allen Mason (Finance Chairperson) and Karen Sablyak (Treasurer)
| |
SUMMARY: As we start off a new school year for our children and youth, and restart our adult small groups, please continue to support our active DUMC ministries and pray for God’s guidance.
Giving: Income for September was $59K, including $5,336 for COG – the special giving request letter sent out to all members. On a YTD basis, income is ($230K) less than budget, which is partially offset by the generous special giving of $73K.
Disbursements: Our disbursements for September were $14K less than budget – Note that there is no Connectional Ministry expense as the Administrative Council Board approved withholding this amount from the Conference until DUMC’s finances improve. YTD disbursements are $91K less than budget as we continue to monitor expenses. REJOICE!
Net Cash (Deficit): We suffered negative cash flow in September of ($20K) and still negative ($101K) YTD. To help offset our cash deficits, and as discussed and approved at our church meetings, we will be using the following funds: 1) $50K from the Vannoy Organ Fund to help fund music operating expenses in 2024 and 2) $97K from the parsonage Money Market Fund to cover the mortgage payments for 2024.
Please keep DUMC and our finances in your prayers. GOD’S PLANS ARE MORE THAN WE CAN IMAGINE!!
I can do all things through HIM who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

Lay Leader Insights:
TIMOTHY AND TRUTH
In the Bible, the epistle of 1 Timothy describes a challenging situation. Timothy was living in Ephesus, but many in the church there had lost their way. They were teaching ideas contrary to the gospel, which states that our salvation comes by faith in Jesus alone, not through works, or good deeds. These lies caused chaos and confusion among God's people, leading many astray. Paul encouraged Timothy to stick with it in Ephesus, to fight the good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:12), and guard the gospel of truth (1 Timothy 6:20).
Maybe you can relate to Timothy, feeling like you are living in chaos and confusion. The world is always sending us messages about what we need to do, who we need to be, and what we need to believe, but instead of clarity, we get chaos that makes us fearful and feel like things are out of control.

October Mission of the Month:
HOPE INTERNATIONAL
| | |
Our Mission of the Month for October is Hope International. Hope International supports savings groups and microfinancing at the local level in many countries in eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, and Central & South America. Their model for savings groups encourages a local group to pool their savings and then decide what investments to support. It may be a sewing machine to for a woman to start a business, better farm tools, or paying school fees. These are loans that are paid to individuals in the community. They pay back the loans with interest, so the group’s investments grow. The entire process is managed by the savings group, with instruction and coaching from a Hope International regional field worker. Hope International also does microfinancing, where Hope is” the bank” giving the loan. Both models provide opportunities for people in regions and situations where loans are not available or affordable.
Plan to listen to the sermon on Sunday, October 13 presented by Brian Boycan, Senior Development Officer of Hope International. Learn about and pray for Hope at https://www.hopeinternational.org/. Please support Hope International during the month of October.

2024 Spaghetti Dinner Donation List
As most of you know, each year our students put on a Spaghetti Dinner to raise funds for their summer Mission Trip. This summer, we will be going to Pittsburgh, PA with YouthWorks. This year’s Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser will take place on Sunday, November 3 from 5:00 - 7:30 pm. To make this Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser as successful (financially) as possible for our students, we are asking for donations of all of the ingredients/supplies that we will need. This is where you come in… If you feel inclined to help us out, please feel free to purchase and donate items from the donation list.

Wrapping Presence
Wrapping Presence is an organization that brings the joy of Christmas into area nursing homes. The residents are given the opportunity to “shop” for holiday gifts for their loved ones, which are wrapped by volunteers. The residents also enjoy delicious cookies and visit with Santa. This is all at no charge to the residents.
DUMC will once again partner with Wrapping Presence to bring the joy of the holidays to Liberty Pointe nursing/rehabilitation facility in Doylestown.
I would like to extend an invitation to everyone to join us in this wonderful mission.
Volunteer opportunities with Wrapping Presence are:
