Florida's economic outlook shows promise
|
As planners, we are trained to take the long-term outlook. Thus, while most of the country were understandably bemoaning the latest economic news, we were relieved that the state forecasters expect the economy to be back on track by June 2021. The Office of Economic and Demographic Research (EDR) recently published their biannual report analyzing consumption, personal income, and unemployment. The EDR expects most sectors to show improvement in the next few months.

Race and Real Estate: Creating a shared vision for Equitable Places in Tampa Bay

On September 3, join a tapestry of top Tampa Bay real estate and land use organizations for an important conversation about race, equity, and real estate. Leading equity expert and keynote speaker, Charles T. Brown, MPA, CPD, LCI, senior researcher and adjunct professor at the Bloustein School’s Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers University, will begin the program with a thought-provoking presentation centered at the intersection of real estate, transportation, health, and equity.

Planning Commission elects new officers
|
At the July Planning Commission Board Meeting, the Planning Commissioners unanimously elected two new officers. Former Vice Chair Nigel Joseph was elected Chair, replacing Mitch Thrower who resigned from the Planning Commission for other pursuits. Cody Powell was then elected to serve as Vice Chair.

Public open house for Plant City Transit Study
|
The MPO initiated a transit study earlier this year to explore the needs and feasibility of implementing transit service to Plant City to serve residents daily needs and to provide access to jobs and recreation. The next public open house will be held virtually on August 26.

MPO sponsors speed management study

The Hillsborough MPO sponsored a study of speed management and safety, with recommendations like adding midblock crossings, coordinating signals that optimize an appropriate speed, installing roundabouts, and many other tools that help make roadways safe for people driving, walking, catching the bus, or bicycling.
