After a wave of protests for racial justice in Spring 2020, Plan Hillsborough committee members and staff were motivated to take a renewed look at racial equity in transportation and land use planning locally.

Great American Teach-In 2020
Several Plan Hillsborough staff participated in the Great American Teach-In, held virtually due to the pandemic. Our staff presented to 16 classes of high schoolers at Tampa Bay Tech on how technology can change transportation.

2020 population estimates reveal Tampa attracted more new residents in the last decade
The Bureau of Economics and Business Research (BEBR) recently released the highly anticipated 2020 population estimates by jurisdiction.

South County studies present proposed policy recommendations to communities
November 4, 5, and 7 saw a series of virtual and in-person open houses with the public in Wimauma and Balm. Presentations of the study recommendations at each meeting were followed by a forum for residents, business owners, and other interested parties to ask questions, provide comments, and talk with one another about the recommendations.

Reporting on the One-Cent Surtax
At its October 26, 2020 Public Hearing, the committee approved the 2019 Independent Oversight Committee Annual Report. The report summarizes the results of the surtax audit and results and can be found at your local Hillsborough County Public Library or on our website.

Vision Zero honors victims of traffic fatalities
It was an emotional day for the attendees who came out to recognize the annual World Day of Remembrance of Road Traffic Victims. Vision Zero Hillsborough, partner agencies, and members of the community observed the 200+ families and victims that have been killed in traffic crashes this year.

Vision Zero Corridor Studies analyze top High Injury Network corridors to enhance safety and mobility
The Hillsborough County Vision Zero Corridor Study surveys wrapped up at the end of September. The study focused on the top eight High Injury Network (HIN) corridors with the greatest number of fatalities and serious injuries per mile.

Take the Community Resiliency Information System survey to help officials and policy makers plan for the next hurricane season
The University of South Florida has developed the Community Resiliency Information System survey tool to let local planners and emergency managers know what your neighborhood needs as we face the possibility of hurricanes or tropical storms coming ashore on the Florida Gulf Coast.

The Lower Hillsborough River running through Tampa is once again healthy for wildlife and recreation. This is in no small part due to the establishment of a regulatory minimum flow of water from the middle river.
