It's TIME to take the survey!

View the It's TIME preview.

In this survey, we're seeking your thoughts on three very different transportation and growth scenarios. Survey results will help the three Metropolitan Planning Organizations create the very first tri-county Long-Range Transportation Plan for Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties. By completing the survey and leaving your email address, you'll be eligible for drawings for pairs of tickets to Bucs, Lightning, or the arts! Seven drawings will be held during the October Hillsborough MPO Board Meeting for pairs of tickets to the following:
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs New Orleans Saints game (12/9/2018)
  • Tampa Bay Lightning (five single game drawings)
  • The Palladium Theater at St. Petersburg College
Please take and share this important survey with your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Invite us to your neighborhood meeting or event - we'll customize a presentation or display for your group members to respond to the survey on the spot. Please contact Lisa Silva at 813.273.3774 x329.

Initial findings on the East Rural Agricultural Reserve

Based on direction from the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), Planning Commission staff recently completed a draft analysis of the adopted Goals, Objectives and Policies related to the rural area and agricultural uses in the Comprehensive Plan. The study area is generally south of SR 60, north of the Manatee County Line, and outside the Urban Service Area. An inter-agency staff group collected and analyzed numerous data sets to determine how the area has changed over the last ten  years. The draft East Rural Agricultural Reserve Initial Findings will  be presented in the future to the BOCC for direction on potential next steps.

South Coast Greenway Connector report cover
New South Coast Greenway will connect south Hillsborough County

The Hillsborough MPO is excited to announce the completion of the South Coast Greenway Connector Study, a multi-use trail study evaluat ing  the possible routes to connect from Gibsonton to the Palm River area. Creating this connection to rapidly developing south Hillsborough County will fill an important need for residents looking for safe ways to walk or bike with their families and provide a safe space for users of all ages and abilities. Once built, this trail will be a part of the Shared Use Non-motorized (SUN) Trail network that is already connecting communities across the state. The South Coast Greenway is also a part of the Gulf Coast Trail that will extend from Naples to St. Petersburg, creating a new recreational corridor along the southwest coast of Florida.

Ulele enhanced seawall
Living shorelines, enhanced seawalls improve the Hillsborough River

Natural shorelines dissipate wave action and provide a surface for aquatic plants to grow .  These plants  provide habitat for wildlife and clean the water of excess nutrients.   More recently, there 's been  a growing movement to improve these previously hardened seawall shorelines. Methods include both installing a living shoreline or simply enhancing the existing seawall.  Either  can provide real benefits to wildlife and water quality.
