College Financial Aid Night

If you are planning on enrolling in college, you are probably concerned about meeting the rising costs of higher education. Questions arise about the federal and state grants and loans, scholarship opportunities, and the procedures that must be followed in order to obtain financial assistance. In order to help you in the financial aid process and answer your questions about financial aid opportunities and resources, Cornelia Connelly School will present a Financial Aid Night on Tuesday, October 3, at 7 p.m., in the Library. A College Representative and Financial Consultant will be our keynote speakers and provide you with valuable information to navigate the process. Register for the workshop through Family Connection/Naviance or contact Mrs. Tran Ryan. Students and parents are both encouraged to attend.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be available beginning October 1, 2017.  It is recommended that you start the completion process as soon as possible. At our Financial Aid event, we will provide time for families to set up the FSA ID required for the FAFSA. Here are some helpful links to help CCS families better understand the financial aid process.

What information do I need to fill out the FAFSA?

Grandparents & Special Persons Day
Grandparents Day - Perry
Thanksgiving is the time to express our gratitude for all the people who play such an important role in our lives. Please join us in continuing a family tradition here at Cornelia Connelly School. We would be honored to have your daughter's grandparents, or the special person(s) who fills that role, join her for a day of "thanksgiving" at school.

On Wednesday, November 22, we will begin the day with a small reception, include time in the classrooms, and conclude with Mass in the auditorium. We are looking forward to making this a most memorable way to begin the Thanksgiving Holiday!

Please fill out the information linked below and return the form to the school office by   Friday, October 6 , so a formal invitation can be sent to the grandparents and/or special persons.
SAT Testing
SAT logo
Saturday, October 7 , is the second of seven SAT test dates scheduled for the 2017-18 school year. The SAT is offered at least seven times each year in the U.S. and six times internationally. It is offered in August, October, November, December, March, May and June.

Please note that Friday, October 6, is the deadline to register for the November 4 SAT.

Students must have preregistered to take this test, which colleges and universities look at when applying for admission. Dates for SAT testing, and to register for a test, can be found on the SAT website. If you have questions about various tests that are recommended for college/universities, please contact Mrs. Tran Ryan. Information can also be found on the Connelly website>Academics>College Counseling.

Testing Timeline

  • Sophomores should take a diagnostic SAT & ACT

PSAT/NMSQT Testing - Grades 10-11; PSAT 8/9 Testing - Grade 9
psat
On Wednesday, October 11, Cornelia Connelly School will be administering the Preliminary SAT (usually called the PSAT) to freshman, sophomores and juniors. All 9th -11th grade students are expected to take the test. This is the only date the PSAT will be offered at Connelly this academic year.
The PSAT is truly a practice test and should not be a cause for stress. However, I do encourage you to take the exam seriously because it's a good learning tool, and juniors who score extremely well may be eligible for the National Merit Scholarship as well as other special programs and opportunities. Below is a link to provide information on materials to bring to the tests, such as #2 pencils, calculator, etc. (page 4) and sample test materials.

The PSAT/NMSQT will connect students to programs that use student scores to recognize academic excellence and identify college scholarship candidates. Learn more about other scholarships and recognition opportunities by clicking here.

Tri-School College Fair
college fair
On Monday, October 16, the Tri-School College Fair will be held at Servite. Connelly, Rosary and Servite will be hosting representatives from over 125 colleges and universities. Sophomores, juniors and seniors are invited to attend this event that will be held in the Servite gym from 6:45-8:30 p.m. For seniors this is a great opportunity to learn more about the schools they will be applying to, as well as a chance to meet the representative that will be reviewing their application. Additionally, this serves as a great informational and often motivating opportunity for sophomores and juniors just beginning to think about where they will spend the next four years after graduation.
For college counseling needs, or to schedule an appointment with Mrs. Tran Ryan, please contact her directly at 714-776-1717 Ext. 222, or at [email protected].
