Connelly Coders - Spartan Championship Connelly Coders
The Connelly Coders competed in the 1st Annual Spartan Championship-High School, which brought together some of Southern California's finest teams to battle for a chance to go to the state championships. The VEX Robotics Competition was held on October 14 at Damien High School in LaVerne, where the Connelly Coders competed against 31 other teams, including Servite and Rosary. The Coders experienced a bit of a rollercoaster ride starting off strong, then losing a few rounds, but then gained momentum when they were selected by the 2nd alliance (the 2nd place team). They competed against two other alliances and made it into the finals against the best teams there! Meanwhile, Connelly's brother and sister schools (Servite and Rosary) were knocked out in the semifinals and quarterfinals respectively. After a hard-fought battle, the Connelly Coders finished the competition in second place overall. Congratulations on a job well done!

All Saints Day/Farewell Mass for Martha Serrano
All Saints Day
Connelly will be celebrating All Soul's Day on Wednesday, November 1. At this special Liturgy we will be honoring the community's beloved deceased. All the names from November 1, 2016, to November 1, 2017 will be on a Faithful Departed Scroll to be brought up with the Gifts and laid on the altar during Mass. All are welcome to come and pray for those who have gone before us into the eternal kingdom.

This will also be Martha Serrano's Farewell Mass. As you know, Martha will be formally retiring at the end of this semester after 48 years in Catholic Education and 16 years at Cornelia Connelly School. We will have her family and board members at the Mass as guests and as Liturgical Ministers along with a few guest speakers on her behalf. Please join us for the Holy Day of Obligation for All Saints Day and a celebration of our beloved Martha Serrano, Assistant Head of School, who has given such loving, faithful service to this community and Catholic School Education. A reception will follow the Liturgy . Please note this is a formal uniform day for the students.
Parents Association Meeting

Koala Bowl & Leadership Conference
St. Hedwig team - Koala Bowl
Connelly's Student Council and National Honor Society will be hosting the annual Koala Bowl and Leadership Conference on Thursday, November 2, from 4-7 p.m. For both events, Connelly's NHS and ASB have selected the theme: "Connelly's Blast Through the Past."

For the Koala Bowl, 6th, 7th and 8th grade girls from local schools are invited to test their skills and academic knowledge in fun and challenging games relating to science, math, history, as well as field games and a pop culture quiz. The event is prepared and run completely by the student member of Connelly's NHS (National Honor Society). Not only is this a great way for students across Catholic schools to intermingle, but they also get to experience the welcoming and fun Connelly atmosphere!

The Leadership Conference is an event held at the same time, for 6th, 7th and 8th grade girls who want to learn more about leadership. At this event, Connelly's Associated Student Body (i.e. Student Government or ASB) prepares a workshop to teach  younger girls about what it means to be a leader, and help the girls in attendance develop their leadership skills surrounding the following areas:
  • Activity Planning
  • Effective Brainstorming Strategies
  • How to run a meeting
  • Discovering Leadership Styles
  • Creativity
For Koala Bowl and Leadership Conference information or registration, please contact: Mrs. Aceituno.
