Greetings!
Greetings, Connelly family, we are busy getting ready for a wonderful school year! We hope you will find this weekly e-newsletter informative and helpful in taking a look at the upcoming school week. Connelly at a Glance is sent out every Thursday via email to parents, students, faculty and staff. I am looking forward to meeting each of you and participating in all of your wonderful activities.

If your club or class has an upcoming event that you would like included, please submit verbiage to Connelly's Communication Coordinator, Mrs. Werelius, at least two weeks prior to the event to ensure inclusion. Thank you, and we look forward to serving you in the 2017-2018 school year!

New Family Orientation / Family Day Picnic

Family Day 2015

Connelly would like to invite parents that are new to the Connelly community to the New Family Orientation on Saturday, August 19, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.;  an all-school Family Day Picnic will be held that same day from 1-3 p.m. that ALL Connelly families are invited to. This is a great way to meet and welcome new families as well as catch up with old friends. Also, schedules and locker assignments will be passed out to students who have submitted all required forms. We hope to see everyone there!

Monday, August 21, there will be an all-school orientation and picture day. Dress code should be appropriate for yearbook and ID pictures, which will be taken on this day.   

 

*Seniors who do NOT have their portraits taken by August 18, MUST have their picture taken for their ID on Monday, August 21. 

sports tryouts Fall Sports Tryouts 
Fall sports tryouts for the 2017-2018 school year are as follows:
  • Tennis: August 21 from 3:30-5 p.m. at Anaheim Tennis Center - 975 S. State College Blvd.
  • Cross Country: August 21 from 3:30-5 p.m. at Connelly.
  • Golf: August 23 from 3:15-5 p.m. at Dad Miller.
  • 1st day of school First Day of School & Senior Class Parent Meeting

    Tuesday, August 22, is the first day of school! Classes begin at 8:15 a.m. Lunch will be available for purchase on campus. Welcome freshmen, and welcome back sophomores, juniors and seniors! 

    Senior parents, please note: there is a mandatory meeting for all seniors and their parents at 7 p.m. Important senior year information will be covered.

    student council 9th Grade Class Officer Petitions & Deadline
    Attention 9th grade parents, if your daughter would like to run for class office, class officer petitions will be available on Wednesday, August 23. Completed class officer petitions must be turned in to Miss Eser by the end of the day on Wednesday, August 30. Interviews will begin August 31 and continue September 5-6 as needed in the Activities Office. Miss Eser will provide all candidates with an interview schedule. 
    meeting 10 & 11th Grade Class Parent Meeting
    Connelly will be hosting a 10th and 11th grade Parent Night on Thursday, August 24, at 7 p.m. in Gunther Auditorium. We will be presenting important information pertinent to the current school year. If you have any questions, please contact Academic/College Counselor Mrs. Tran Ryan.
    jostens rings Class Ring & Graduation Announcement Orders
    Jostens will be on campus at lunch on Thursday, August 24 to take class ring orders and answer any class ring questions.

    SAT Testing

    Saturday, August 26 , is the first of seven SAT test dates scheduled for the 2017-18 school year. The SAT is offered at least seven times each year in the U.S. and six times internationally. It is offered in August, October, November, December, March, May and June. 

    Please note that Friday, September 8, is the deadline to register for the October 7 SAT. 

    Students must have preregistered to take this test, which colleges and universities look at when applying for admission. Dates for SAT testing, and to register for a test, can be found on the SAT website. If you have questions about various tests that are recommended for college/universities, please contact Ms. Wegman. Information can also be found on the Connelly website>Academics>College Counseling.

    Testing Timeline
    • Sophomores will take the PSAT
    • Sophomores should take a diagnostic SAT & ACT
    • Juniors will take the PSAT
    • Juniors should plan on taking the SAT or ACT w/Writing Jan-June of this year
    • All testing done by Dec of senior year

    Tri-School Frosh Picnic & Dance (Connelly, Rosary, Servite)

    The Tri-School Frosh Picnic & Dance will be held at Connelly on Saturday, August 26, from 3:30-9 p.m. The cost is $20, which must be turned in with the permission form (available in the Activities Office or on the Student tab of the Connelly website, see link below). The picnic is only for Tri-School freshmen. However, freshmen may bring a guest to the dance. If you have any questions, please contact Miss Eser.

    Location: Cornelia Connelly School
    Picnic: 3:30-7 p.m.
    Dance: 7-9 p.m. (You may bring a guest to the dance ONLY. NO guests allowed at the picnic)

    We are pleased to introduce two new people who recently joined the Connelly community and who will be serving our students and parents. 

    ESL Teacher - Taryn Sue
    Taryn's Educational Background:
    • B.A. University of Witwatersrand Johannesburg, South Africa; Joint Major English and Philosophy
    • Library of Tibetan Works and Archives Dharamsala, India; Tibetan Language Studies
    • National Taiwan Normal University, Mandarin Training Center, Taipei, Taiwan; Modern Language Studies
    Taryn was born in Africa, brought up in Taiwan, and taught in Taiwan and in India.
    She is fluent in three languages (English; Mandarin, and Tibetan). She is a published translator with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
     
    Her plan is to visit classes where students are scheduled to get a sense of where it is that she can be supportive.  Developing college prep skills in writing will be one of the primary goals for international students here for their second, third, or fourth year.

    Registrar - Bridget Anderson
    Bridget Anderson is our new Registrar. Ms. Anderson brings much experience with her. Prior to Connelly, Ms. Anderson was the registrar for 10 years at a college. She oversees a full household as  mother of two teenagers - one in high school and one in college, as well as having 3 cats, 2 dogs, and a hamster! She has a B.S. from Devry University, and is currently enrolled in law school!

    There are a variety of practically painless fundraisers to benefit Connelly that you can participate in without even realizing it. Simple weekly shopping trips to Ralphs and/or Target can raise money for Connelly. You can also register various grocery and store cards with eScrip.com to earn a 1-4% return for Connelly.     Connelly Student Shuttle Program

    Connelly transportation shuttle

    Did you know Connelly has a Student Shuttle Program? For a very reasonable cost, we offer a convenient shuttle that travels both in the morning and in the afternoon to transport girls to Connelly. We also have a "drop in" program! We hope that through our shuttle program we can show just how accessible and easy it is for students in Orange and Los Angeles counties to attend Connelly.
