Of Toxic Workplaces & Turning Points
A toxic workplace is more like a slow drip than a burst pipe and doesn't develop overnight. The condition is not typically highlighted by a major event or situation, but more subtly defined by a gradual decline in morale and behaviours that cumulatively fill the sink to overflowing...

Speculation Tax - "It's Anti-Canadian"
The Kelowna Chamber is keeping up its dialogue with members and the provincial government on the new speculation tax. Since the province introduced the new measure in February, our Chamber has received a mailbag full of letters, emails, phone calls, and one-on-one conversations with members and non-members on how the impact of the tax will injure the economy of the valley.

"It's anti-Canadian," says Carmen Sparg, President of the Kelowna Chamber. "Turning away fellow citizens and Canadian residents because they don't live here year-round is not the way we see ourselves." Sparg is currently at the BC Chamber AGM and Policy Conference in Kamloops, where the Kelowna Chamber is tabling "Anti-Canadian Tariff: Pressing the Paulse Button on BC's proposed Speculation Tax" - a policy that calls for a delay in implementing the tax - until the economic impact can be clearly laid out by the government - or scrapping it altogether. The policy is expected to pass unanimously, with more than 17 Chambers province-wide already signed on as supporters.

The Kelowna Chamber is a founding member of the "Scrap the Speculation Tax" Coalition, a growing body of individuals, companies, organizations and those who will be impacted by the additional tax on both new and long-standing owned properties from those outside the province. "If you want to join the coalition," says Dan Rogers, Executive Director of the Chamber, "just visit the Coalition website and register your view."
Our Policy Advisory Committee is active on a number of key issues. For a complete list visit our website under Advocacy/Key Issues.
