Connie Connection - Quarterly Newsletter
A WORD FROM JENN SEARLS:
Celebrating Connie's 1-Year Anniversary
It’s hard to believe that it’s been over a year since Connie was deemed operational by the Office of Health Strategy. Since that time, the team at Connie and its partners have achieved significant milestones on the road to empowering Connecticut’s consumers and health care providers. Thanks to our health care partners, we have more than 3.5M unique patients in our master patient index, 100% of the acute care hospitals in the state have committed to connecting to Connie, and more than 50% of them are contributing data to Connie.

Connie receives data from organizations across the healthcare spectrum and has rolled out innovative use cases and technology, including Image Sharing and the Best Possible Medication History. None of this would be possible without the energetic and committed team at Connie and our technology partners at Crisp Shared Services. Additionally, we have been buoyed by and cheered on by our board, the Office of Health Strategy, the Department of Social Services, and countless stakeholders across the state. We are looking forward to year 2 when we hope to see the rest of the healthcare ecosystem in the state on board and participating with Connie as well as opening up access to Connie’s data for patients. Thank you for your continued support, feedback, and commitment to safe, secure, and efficient interoperable healthcare for our state and its residents.

NEW: HIE Admin Tool Enhancement
On August 4th, 2022, Connie will roll out the HIE Admin Tool, which enables Connie's HIE Admins to add services to their organization’s HIE Portal accounts and reset user passwords. With this self-service feature, HIE Admins no longer need to create a help desk ticket and wait for HIE Support Services. These improvements will give HIE Admins the ability to protect their patient’s information and privacy as required by HIPAA by controlling appropriate access to Connie tools.

If you need additional support, or have questions about this new enhancement, please contact your Connie Account Manager directly, or email us at [email protected].
COMING SOON: Patient Access
We are pleased to announce that Connie, in partnership with our technology vendor CRISP Shared Services, is progressing toward making Electronic Health Information (EHI) that’s provided through Connie available to patients. Providing patients with access to their EHI enables Connie to meet the provisions of the 21st Century Cures Act and the Patient Access goals described in Connecticut’s State Statute Sec. 17b-59d.
On 7/21/2022, we hosted a FREE WEBINAR to review the Prevention of Harm Exemption process for our participating organizations, in preparation for enabling patients to access their EHI available through Connie. NEW SERVICES LIVE IN CONNIE:
BPMH is a medication history created using a systematic process of gathering medication information from multiple sources, deduplicating and standardizing the data, and displaying it in a single resource to assist healthcare providers with patient care.

With BPMH, we’ve done the legwork for you by synthesizing the medication information found in your patient’s continuity of care documents (CCDs) and centralizing the information in one place, saving time and making comparative viewing much easier. As with all information obtained in Connie, BPMH may not reflect a patient’s complete medication history, as it is limited to the information provided by those organizations submitting data to Connie (see Connie data connections).
Authorized users will be able to access Patient SNAPSHOT prior to their patient’s visit, allowing them to quickly identify potential issues that need to be reviewed and/or discussed with their patient. Additionally, the user will be able to see the patient’s care team and review any healthcare encounters they’ve had in the past year.

Patient SNAPSHOT is available through the Connie Portal where key information is streamlined for you in a single summary, at the press of a button.

Patient SNAPSHOT saves time for both patients and providers, allowing for a more holistic view of the patient’s history, and helps providers deliver a more prepared and informed patient experience.
