Each of the many ways you can use the Trailhead directly benefits the Conservancy, the 501c3 non-profit that manages 88% of Catalina Island. Whether you are looking to shop, find answers to your Catalina questions, learn through education exhibits or grab a bite to eat with a great view, the Trailhead is the perfect place to begin and end your Catalina adventure. Prepare for Adventure : Grab the Conservancy’s Trails Map, Conservancy Membership, hiking permit and Freewheeler Bike Pass or anything else you may need to explore the Island's 42,000+ acres of wildlands. Catch a Lift: The Trailhead serves as the launch pad for two great opportunities to wheel into the wildlands. Enjoy a Naturalist-led Eco Tour through the Island's interior or a trip to the Airport via the Wildlands Express Shuttle . Members receive discounts on both Eco Tour and Wildlands Express trips. Stock up : Bring a piece of Catalina Island home with you by picking up some of the Trailhead’s mission-related retail items. Fox PSA Please do not feed foxes . The biggest threat to the Catalina Island Fox now comes in the form of people. Feeding foxes is not only illegal - it hurts the foxes! As they are fed, foxes spend more time sitting on roads waiting for food. This makes them vulnerable to passing cars. Fox deaths due to vehicles doubled in 2018. Be part of keeping that number down in 2019 by refraining from feeding foxes and keeping your speeds below 25 mph. If you see anyone sharing their lunch with a friendly fox, please share your knowledge and refer them to the Conservancy for more information.

Tickets On Sale Now for Catalina: The Wild Side Art Show Join us at the 9th Annual Catalina: The Wild Side Art Show and Sale on Sunday, October 20, 2019 . This year's show at Newport Harbor Yacht Club features eleven nationally acclaimed plein air artists who will display their interpretations of Catalina's rugged wildlands and scenic beauty. Proceeds from the sale of these unique paintings support the Conservancy's conservation, education and recreation programs. Learn more and purchase tickets!

Hiking with Dr. Halsey More than a dozen Conservancy members participated in a guided hike, June 1, with Last Friday Lecture Series speaker Dr. Richard Halsey, director of the CA Chaparral Institute. During the loop from Black Jack into Upper Cape Canyon, Halsey expanded on his talk’s theme of understanding the environment while rediscovering and connecting with ourselves through nature. He also identified unique flora along the trail and, of course, pointed out chaparral, native shrubland communities and California’s most extensive ecosystem.
