Good morning,

I'd like to offer a prayer to all those who lost love ones in the two horrible plane crashes this week.

God our strength and our redeemer:

you do not leave us in this life nor abandon us in death.

Hear our prayer for those in despair,

when days are full of darkness and the future seems empty of hope. Renew in them your sustaining strength

for we believe that there is nothing in all creation

that can separate us from your love in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Amen

Quotes of the Month

This quote made me think of President Trump

"No man is worth his salt who is not ready at all times to risk his body, to risk his well-being, to risk his life, in a great cause." ~Theodore Roosevelt

From the Chair

Rhonda Torres, Chair

The COLF Leadership team has had many discussions on what we believe will be the best way to move forward for our group. I sent out several surveys on the potential of dues to help fund a regular venue for meetings, administrative costs, COLF activities, and election work. However, there were not enough responses to move forward. The Bowman Library venue is difficult to plan more than 2 months out and there is no guarantee on an available date or time, and the Fire Station was cost prohibitive as we function on donations.

For now, the meetings will be held at our house. I understand the parking issue, but we will make arrangements as we have in the past for parking.

We have decided to have gatherings every other month, along with our Summer picnic and winter party. There will be a call to action for election activities surrounding the June Primary and the November General Election.

We plan to have a short presentation at the March gathering on COLF's finances and the upcoming elections, but we will keep it brief in order to enjoy being together as we usher winter out and celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

Be a bold and proud

Kim Yotko and Mark Dunford shared great information with the group in attendance regarding the issues we are having with the Fire Station and rising home owners insurance, and in some cases, cancelled insurance.

I had sent out a templated for you to use to send to the BOS. However, I have since received conflicting information regarding the issue. Once I clarify it, I will send more information.

The Festivus Report 2024

submitted by Al Torres

On December 23, 2024, U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), Ranking member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released his 2024 "Festivus" Report, totaling $1,008,313,329,626.12 in government waste.

This is is 10th edition of the Festivus Report as he continues working to alert the American people to how their federal government uses their hard-earned money. Some of the highlights include the National Endowment of the Arts funding ice-skating drag queens and promoting city park circuses. Additionally, the Department of the Interior (DOI) invested in the construction of a brand new $12 million Las Vegas Pickleball complex. DOI also allocated $720,479 to wetland conservation projects for ducks in MEXICO. This year the Department of State is featured eleven times, with expenditures including $4.8 million on Ukraine influencers, $32,596 on breakdancing, $2.1 million for Paraguayan Border Security, $3 million for 'Girl-Centered Climate Action' in Brazil, and much more!

It continues to be very important for each of us to keep tabs on what WDC is doing with our money and alert and/or question our Representatives when we see this going on. They need to know we are paying attention to stop this abuse.
