We are in the season of life where we've raised our children and paid our dues in the work force. Now, it's time to relax, have fun, and enjoy our grandchildren. Is it though?
Politics has been a dirty word in many of our lives. We've all said at some point that "all politicians are corrupt," "my vote doesn't count", or "I'm too busy." If we all believe this, what kind of world are we leaving for our grandchildren and their children?
Our actions can help get this county back on the right path. We have an obligation to be informed on issues, stay engaged in politics (local, state, and federal), support candidates, and educate our families on the reasons why conservative values are the only way our pull our society back from the brink of destruction.
Al Torres wrote an editorial that says it all. Please read below.
Our Founding Fathers
Editorial by Al Torres
The fifty-six Americans pledged their lives, fortunes, and their sacred honor by signing the Declaration of Independence did not make an idle pledge. Nine of the signers died of wounds during the Revolutionary War. Five were captured or imprisoned. Wives and children were killed, jailed, mistreated, or left penniless. Twelve of the signers’ homes were burned to the ground, and seventeen lost everything they owned. Not one single signer defected. Their honor-like their Nation-remained intact.
All too often, we remain silent, unwilling to risk speaking out in defense of our beliefs for fear of being attacked by our families, friends or neighbors. Yet when we are among like-minded conservatives, we speak our truth and our dismay at what is happening in our country. We wonder, “How could they let this happen?” Well, as it so happens, WE are the THEY.
Unless we are willing to let our voices be heard or demonstrate by action-protesting the liberal immorality and the push for socialism that is taking a foothold in our Nation-we will lose our Nation. It starts at the local and state level. We have a sacred obligation to preserve the Nation our Founders, with guidance of the hand of God, gave us. Those brave Americans who signed the Declaration of Independence knew they were signing their own death warrants.
We have another example of a historically recorded sacred obligation: the Bible. Matthew 10:16-20 tells us,
_______________
“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be as wary as serpents, and as innocent as doves. 17 But be on guard against people, for they will hand you over to the courts and flog you in their synagogues; 18 and you will even be brought before governors and kings on My account, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But when they hand you over, do not worry about how or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given you in that hour. 20 For it is not you who are speaking, but it is the Spirit of your Father who is speaking in you.

The twelve disciples’ willingness to suffer and die for their beliefs is a testament to their deep conviction and the transformative power of their experiences with Jesus. Despite the uncertainties surrounding the specifics of their deaths, the legacy of the twelve disciples continues to inspire Christians around the world, demonstrating the cost of discipleship and the enduring impact of their mission.
These are powerful examples of the willingness of men to stand up and speak out. Asking citizens to support our elected officials, our candidates, or to speak out against what we see as evil taking root in our society is nothing in comparison to what our Nation’s Founding Fathers did, what Jesus’ disciples did, or for that matter, what every man or women who wore the uniform, sacrificed for our Nation.
It is our turn!
