It's Here!

HelIo friends!

I'm excited to announce the publication of

Consider the Night Sky,

book three in The Consider Series,

published by Eerdmans Books for Young Readers.

Consider the Night Sky is an educational picture book, an astronomy primer for kids.

School Library Journal writes:

"Gentle and thoughtful...A soothing, reflective read that invites children to look up, wonder, and feel small

in the universe and special within it."

Anythink: The Nation's First Nature Library

I was happy to learn about Anythink, the first "nature library" in the U.S. Located in Thornton, CO. (Colorado folks -- you've got to go!) It is "a place where curiosity and care for the natural world take root." When an Instagram acquaintance sent me a reel introducing this amazing library to the world, she noted that, of the 34,000 books in their collection, the reel featured just one...my Finding Calm in Nature. Written for children 7-11ish, the book is full of scientific information and ways to connect with nature to alleviate anxiety. One therapist who works with kids wrote a letter to her colleagues, recommending the book for their professional use, saying:

Before Grant’s book, I would never have considered that spirals found in nature can point to a growth-mindset, or that tree sap can connect us to pent up emotion, or how lava flow mirrors acceptance of strong feelings. Her thoughtful reflections are steeped in sound emotional intelligence and cool science facts. One cannot help but be curious and calmed by how fundamentally normal it is to feel.

What an honor! Finding Calm was a true labor of love and joy to write; I'm so happy it's out in the world, in therapists' offices, the nature museum, and elsewhere!

A few recent snapshots...

Last summer, my husband and I cycled from Prague to Vienna. This past July, we biked around the fjords in Norway, part of a summer full of firsts, including visiting Norway and Switzerland, learning to play Monopoly Deal, discovering (and falling in love with) the London plane tree, seeing the work of British painter Cecily Brown (Wow!), drinking fresh raspberry juice, and climbing a glacier.

Before Norway, we spent time with our daughter in London, and, honestly, this novella (Cold Enough for Snow by Jessica Au) nearly jumped off the shelf into my arms one afternoon when we were in a wonderful indie bookshop. I think it might be the greatest work of fiction I've ever read...it's definitely landed firmly in my top five.

The little brown (handle-less) pitcher is a recent creation from my ongoing pottery practice.

So...there are a few highlights from the past few months.

I wish you well as summer winds to an end.
