Drainage System Construction Update

Crews are continuing to construct a drainage system along northbound SR-55 between the McFadden Avenue off-ramp and railroad bridge. Crews are expected to begin connecting the new drainage system to the existing system in the coming weeks.

Once that work is completed, contractors will demolish an existing wall and construct a new retaining wall with a sound wall on top of it. The new retaining wall/sound wall will be approximately 30’ tall and nearly 900’ long, extending along northbound SR-55 adjacent to the McFadden Avenue off-ramp.

About the Project

OCTA, in cooperation with Caltrans, is improving 4 miles of SR-55 between I-405 and I-5. The project will improve traffic flow and reduce travel time by adding one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction. Also, the project will add merge lanes between several interchanges and stripe carpool lanes for continuous access, augmenting safety on the freeway by making merging easier. These enhancements are expected to create a better, smoother driving experience for motorists.
