Segment 1: Lakeview to SR-55

⚠️ Nighttime Westbound Full Directional Freeway Closure ⚠️

What:

TONIGHT, crews will close the westbound (WB) SR-91 – including the WB and

eastbound (EB) 91 Express Lanes – from Imperial Highway to SR-55/Tustin Avenue.


When: 

As early as 9 p.m., TONIGHT, Sept. 26 to 5 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 27


Why:

The full WB closure is necessary to restripe lanes and place temporary concrete barriers. The number of lanes will remain the same, however the configuration will shift slightly to allow crews to create protected work zones to facilitate the next stage of construction.

Closures:

  • WB SR-91 from Imperial Highway to SR-55/Tustin Avenue
  • WB SR-91 on-ramps from Imperial Highway
  • WB SR-91 on- and off-ramps at Lakeview Avenue
  • WB SR-91 connector to southbound (SB) SR-55
  • WB 91 Express Lanes between SR-55/Tustin Avenue and the Orange County/Riverside County line

Detours:

  • From Imperial Highway, turn left onto E. La Palma Avenue. Turn left on Tustin Avenue to access WB SR-91


  • To access SB SR-55, use the detour above. Turn right on the EB SR-91 loop on-ramp and continue to SB SR-55 connector

Lakeview Avenue Bridge

Pile Driving at Lakeview Avenue

Crews completed the first two portions of pile driving in the center median of the freeway and along WB SR-91. Work in the final location, along the EB SR-91 off-ramp, is expected to begin during on Sept. 29 and continue on weekdays through Friday, Oct. 13. Crews may be on the worksite as early as 6 a.m. and are anticipated to perform pile driving activities from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. 


While pile driving is a critical step in the construction process, it may also be noisy and cause some vibration.

Project Wall Activities

Along WB 91 On-Ramp

Crews are expected to continue daily work on the wall as early as 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The new sound wall is anticipated to be complete by mid-2026.

Crews pouring concrete to construct the stems, the main structural support of the new sound wall.

Along EB 91 Off-Ramp

Crews are expected to continue demolishing the wall along the EB 91 off-ramp as early as 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., through Friday, Oct. 10.

Additional Closure Information

Freeway and Ramp Closures:

Nighttime lane closures on EB and WB SR-91 will occur regularly throughout construction. At least one lane will be open to traffic at all times, unless otherwise specified.



  • EB 91 Loop On-Ramp at Lakeview (Two-Year Closure):
  • The two-year closure started on July 7, 2025.


91 Express Lanes:

The following nighttime closures of the 91 Express Lanes will occur between SR-55/Tustin Avenue and the Orange County/Riverside County line.

  • WB and EB 91 Express Lanes:
  • As early as 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26 to 5 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27

Overview

The SR-91 (SR-57 to SR-55) Improvement Project will improve 6.6 miles of State Route 91 (SR-91) through Anaheim, Fullerton, Orange, Placentia and Yorba Linda. The project will improve mobility throughout the corridor, reduce weaving and merging between ramps, and improve on- and off-ramps. The project will reconstruct the La Palma Avenue, Glassell Street, Tustin Avenue and Lakeview Avenue bridges and interchanges with standard lanes, shoulders and sidewalks in each direction.
