SR-91 Over State College Boulevard

Partial Demolition

WHAT:

The SR-91 bridge over State College Boulevard is being widened to improve traffic flow and safety. To complete this work, construction crews will close State College, on- and off-ramps and outside 91 freeway lanes to safely remove sections of the existing bridge. Anticipated nightly, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., beginning as early as Monday, June 8 through Wednesday, June 10 into the following morning, and again Monday, June 15 to Wednesday, June 17 into the following morning.

This work may be loud due to construction equipment, back up alarms, and concrete removal.

Crews are anticipated to continue construction activities that will require a full Lakeview Avenue street closure between Santa Ana Canyon Road and the westbound (WB) SR-91 off-ramp at Lakeview nightly, as early as Friday, June 5 and Monday, June 8 through Friday, June 12 (into Saturday morning).

Intermittent nightly closures on Lakeview Avenue are expected to continue through mid-June.

Motorists traveling both northbound (NB) and southbound (SB) on Lakeview Avenue will now use a new signalized intersection to access the newly realigned WB SR-91 straight on-ramp, and the WB SR-91 loop on-ramp at Lakeview Avenue has been permanently closed.

In this configuration, the eastern side of Lakeview Avenue is fully closed to pedestrians through August 2026. The western side is accessible to pedestrians.

Crews are hard at work. You may notice more traffic than usual. Please allow for extra time or utilize alternative routes. 

Intermittent night work will continue in the coming weeks as crews advance to the next phase of bridge construction. The new half of the bridge is expected to be open later this summer, stay tuned for additional information about lane configurations and demolition of the remaining portions of the old bridge.

Crews will continue night work activities during the week of June 8 at Lakeview Avenue.

Sound and Retaining Wall Construction

Crews continue work on a sound wall along the WB SR-91 on-ramp and a retaining wall along the EB SR-91 on-ramp. Daily construction activities will start as early as 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The new wall is anticipated to be complete by mid-2026.

Construction on Segment 2 of the SR-91 Improvement Project is expected to begin in late 2026.

Crews will continue striping activities and installation of temporary lighting and traffic control systems in the Segment 3 construction zone. Work will occur during both daytime and nighttime hours, with nighttime operations expected throughout much of the week. State College Boulevard will remain open to traffic; however, overnight lane reductions, ramp closures, and connector closures are required to safely complete this work.

Street Closures:

Lakeview Avenue:

• As early as Monday, June 8 to Wednesday, June 10, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, into the next morning

Freeway and Ramp Closures:

Nighttime lane closures on EB and WB SR-91 and NB and SB SR-57 are anticipated to occur regularly throughout construction. At least one lane will be open to traffic at all times, unless otherwise specified.

EB SR-91 On-Ramp at Lakeview:

• As early as Friday, June 5, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., into the next morning
• As early as Monday, June 8 through Friday, June 12, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, into the next morning

WB SR-91 Off-Ramp at Lakeview:

• As early as Friday, June 5, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., into the next morning
• As early as Monday, June 8 through Friday, June 12, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, into the next morning

WB SR-91 Loop On-Ramp at Lakeview:

• Permanently closed

EB SR-91 Loop On-Ramp at Lakeview (Two-Year Closure):

• The two-year closure started on July 7, 2025

WB SR-91 Off-Ramp at State College Boulevard:

• As early as Monday, June 8 to Wednesday, June 10, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, into the next morning

WB SR-91 On-Ramp at State College Boulevard:

• As early as Monday, June 8 to Wednesday, June 10, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, into the next morning

EB SR-91 Off-Ramp at State College Boulevard:

• As early as Monday, June 8 to Wednesday, June 10, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, into the next morning

EB SR-91 On-Ramp at State College Boulevard:

91 Express Lanes Closures:

The following nighttime closures of the 91 Express Lanes will occur between SR-55/Tustin Avenue and the Orange County/Riverside County line.



WB 91 Express Lanes:

• As early as 9 p.m., Friday, June 5 to 5 a.m., Saturday, June 6

EB 91 Express Lanes:

• As early as 11 p.m. Friday, June 5 to 7 a.m., Saturday, June 6

The SR-91 (SR-57 to SR-55) Improvement Project will improve 6.6 miles of State Route 91 (SR-91) through Anaheim, Fullerton, Orange, Placentia and Yorba Linda. The project will improve mobility throughout the corridor, reduce weaving and merging between ramps, and improve on- and off-ramps. The project will reconstruct the La Palma Avenue, Kraemer Boulevard/Glassell Street, Tustin Avenue and Lakeview Avenue bridges and interchanges with standard lanes, shoulders and sidewalks in each direction.
