REMINDER: SOUTHBOUND I-5

FULL FREEWAY NIGHTLY CLOSURES


CLOSURE ALERT


Crews are finalizing placement of precast girders for the Los Alisos bridge, Aug. 8 & 10, 2022. This activity will require southbound I-5 freeway closures nightly between El Toro Road and Alicia Parkway.


The precast girders will be placed as the primary support deck being constructed for the expansion of the Los Alisos bridge.



WHEN:

  • Monday, Aug. 8 and Wednesday, Aug. 10, midnight to 5 a.m.


WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Southbound I-5 freeway closure, Aug. 8 & 10
  • Electronic message boards
  • Detour signage will be in place to assist motorists
The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues.

UPCOMING PILE DRIVING NEAR

CROWN VALLEY PARKWAY 

Crews have finished installing steel shoring along northbound I-5 near Crown Valley Parkway in preparation for the retaining wall work needed to make way for the freeway improvements. The shoring retains the soil during pile driving and wall construction. 


Crews will perform pile driving along northbound I-5 at Crown Valley Pkwy. starting this week. Pile driving will begin as early as August 11 and will continuing through the next several months. Pile driving is necessary for the foundation of the retaining wall.

PROJECT UPDATE:

ALISO CREEK BIKEWAY

Crews have been busy working on the Aliso Viejo bikeway, set to open early Fall as part of the I-5 South County Improvements Project. The bikeway is shifting slightly to allow for the widening of Los Alisos Boulevard bridge and the I-5 freeway. In addition, crews have replaced the drainage system along the bikeway and repaved the roadway and trail for community enhancements. Riders will enjoy new paved bikeways, delineation and striping, and fencing along the trail.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The project, which spans the cities of Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel, is expected to be completed in 2025.
