Message from the President
Greetings!

As my time as President of the Construction Engineering & Management Division comes to a close in June of this year, I can look back over the past two years, and I’m grateful for the time I have had to fill this role and for the privilege of working with such a wonderful and diverse group of board members. Even though our division may be smaller than others, our board is comprised of academia, industry, and government professionals. We have researchers, professors, and seasoned industrial engineers in management positions in industry which all have a wealth of knowledge and experience that I have had the immense pleasure of learning from over my tenure. Their willingness to volunteer their time and expertise to further this body of knowledge within Industrial Engineering is inspiring and has definitely made a positive impact for both our chapter members and IISE. Thank you!

The board and track chair members were pleased to see that we doubled the number of abstracts submitted for the annual conference from last year. We are set to have a dynamic and full track of papers and presentations in May. Along with our town hall, we will also will have a special session on asset-centric project management. We encourage you to start planning to attend now and to not miss out on the collaboration and insights that are always the highlight of the conference.

The 2023 Annual Conference is scheduled for May 20-23 in New Orleans, LA. The hotel block is now open for registration at the conference hotel. Attendees must be registered by March 11, 2023, to be eligible for the discounted rate for registration.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me at ewall@cavse.msstate.edu, or any of the committee members if you wish to get involved.

Thanks,

Emily Wall, Ph.D., P.E.

Board Member Highlight
Greetings!

I hope this message finds you well. I am thrilled to introduce myself as the incoming president of IISE's Construction Engineering and Management Division. It is an honor to be part of such a dedicated and dynamic group of individuals who are passionate about construction engineering and management.

A little about myself, I am an Assistant Research Scientist with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute and have experience in utility investigations, data collection and mapping, construction management, and infrastructure and asset management. I also provide technical support and training in Utility Conflict Management (UCM) to DOT and others.

As we move forward, there are several potential growth opportunities for our Division. And we should aim to increase our membership by continuing to reach out to students and young professionals and creating more partnerships with industry organizations and companies to promote the value of industrial and systems engineering in construction engineering and management. Additionally, we will continue to provide valuable benefits to our Division members, by sharing research and professional development opportunities, and networking opportunities. We will also increase engagement by creating more opportunities for members to connect with each other, share knowledge and experiences, and collaborate on projects.

I would like to take a moment to thank our previous President, Emily Wall, for her leadership and dedication to our Division. We are grateful for the contributions she has made and wish her all the best as she continues to serve the board as the Past President.

I am excited about the future of our Division and look forward to working with all of you in the coming years. Please feel free to reach out to me or any of our board members if you have any questions or ideas to share.

Thank you,

Kris Harbin
