Winter 2025

As we continue into the new year, Princeton Builds enters a new phase of construction on campus.

Many capital projects have been completed in recent months, including the Class of 1986 Fitness and Wellness Center, the new Racquet and Recreation Fieldhouse, the Cynthia Paul Softball Field, the Frist Health Center, and soon, the new Princeton University Art Museum.

Looking further into the year, Environmental Studies and Commons is anticipated to complete this spring while the completion of the two SEAS buildings, Bioengineering and Chemical Biological Engineering, is on track for this fall. Major construction activity on campus will wind down in 2025.

But there are also new projects on the horizon. The traditional summer projects will commence in a few short months and progress at Hobson College and the steam to hot water conversion will continue.

Keep reading for updates on specific projects and learn about other efforts in accessibility and sustainability.

COMPLETED PROJECTS

RACQUET & RECREATION FIELDHOUSE

The Racquet and Recreation Fieldhouse is the new home for Princeton’s Varsity Squash and Tennis teams. The 180,000 GSF facility includes indoor tennis courts, indoor squash courts, locker rooms, coaches’ offices, and sports medicine facilities. Outdoor tennis courts and associated bleacher seating are connected to the east side of the building. The racquet and fitness areas are served by a common lobby and concession area.

The Fieldhouse is also home to Princeton’s newest fitness facility, Wilkinson Fitness Center. Access to the Wilkinson Fitness Center, squash courts and tennis courts at the Racquet & Recreation Fieldhouse is available to all Princeton University students and Campus Rec Members!

FRIST HEALTH CENTER

The Frist Health Center opened on January 13. The new center provides outpatient medical care and counseling services for students and limited medical services for faculty and staff. In addition to medical services, Frist Health also will be a hub for health and wellness programs that serve the campus community.

In addition to opening the new Health Center, new pathways around the perimeter of the building heading toward Frist Campus Center have also opened.

CYNTHIA PAUL FIELD

The Cynthia Paul Field is the new home for the Varsity Women’s Softball Team. The facility includes a turf field, press box, batting cages, restrooms, and bleacher seating for 300 spectators.

PROJECT UPDATES

HOBSON COLLEGE

Construction of the five connected halls that comprise Hobson College continues with the installation of structural components. Mass timber beam and steel installation is ongoing while interior partitions and mechanical, electrical and plumbing installation starts.

ART MUSEUM

  • Construction of pathways on the exterior of the Art Museum are anticipated to wrap up early this spring, connecting McCosh Walk from Elm Drive to Chapel Drive.
  • Installation of artwork, collections and exhibitions by the Art Museum continues in preparation of opening the New Art Museum in fall 2025.

ES + SEAS

  • In spring 2025 the ES & Commons buildings will open, welcoming several Environmental Studies departments -- Geosciences, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and the High Meadows Environmental Institute.
  • Construction on the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) portion will continue into Fall 2025 as the work moves from the exterior of the building to finishing the interior spaces. SEAS will house the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and the Omen-Darling Bioengineering Institute.

GUYOT HALL'S ALLOSAURUS TAKES WINTER BREAK FOR RESTORATION

For over six decades, the towering skeleton of Al, the University’s Allosaurus, has stood grandly in Guyot’s central foyer. Wondering where Al has gotten to? The beloved dinosaur was carefully disassembled and sent to Canada for some much-needed TLC in October. Al’s reinstallment is set for spring 2025 in the University’s new Environmental Studies building.

PRINCETON BUILDS BANNERS GET SECOND LIFE

As construction projects near completion and fencing begins to come down, Princeton Facilities got creative with managing the leftover banners. In an effort to divert the banners from the landfill, the team decided to reuse the material by upcycling the old banners into stylish tote bags.

Learn more about the process to produce the tote bags on the Sustainability at Princeton website.
