Greetings!

Welcome to the crazy holiday season. Two down and many more to go. I’ve always called the stretch between Thanksgiving and New Year’s “the Twilight Zone,” that strange vortex where your hard work disappears and you can only hope it pops out the other side of a black hole in January. Before anyone critiques the analogy, I’ll admit I’m no scientist; I’m just a fan of a few good science-fiction books, movies, and TV shows.

The DVBA remains firmly focused on protecting the interests of the building and construction industry throughout this busy time. We will still hold our Monthly Legislative Affairs Forum this Thursday, Dec. 4th, at 7:30 a.m. at Rancho Mirage City Hall, followed by the Professional Women in Building meeting from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.

We’re also seeking input from our builders and contractors regarding construction site security. The City of Indio recently proposed an ordinance requiring construction sites to install lighting and color video cameras with police access to the feeds. After productive conversations with several councilmembers, the discussion has shifted toward creating a resolution with guidelines aimed at reducing theft, vandalism, and arson. The city would monitor incident reports for 24–36 months and then decide at the end of that period whether to make the guidelines mandatory, depending on whether crime has dropped significantly.

Please reach out with your thoughts, concerns, and recommendations as we work to protect our members, reduce crime on job sites, and avoid unnecessary permitting costs or additional oversight.

Sincerely,

James Brownyard

Executive Director
