Segments one and two of the retaining wall at northbound I-5 Crown Valley Pkwy. on-ramp are now complete. Crews recently completed shoring beam placements on the next segment and will move into the final phase of pile driving.
To support the retaining wall structure, steel beams, or "piles," are driven into the soil until reaching a hard layer of earth beneath the structure foundation. Crews then install rebar, pour footings and form the wall.
This will be the last pile driving activity in the section, as crews work towards completion of the longest wall in the project, built at 1,328 feet long and ranging in height from 16-26 feet with a slate stone finish.
The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues.
