PAVEMENT MARKINGS ENHANCED ON I-5 AT LA PAZ ROAD
To increase lane visibility on the southbound (SB) I-5 Freeway at La Paz Road, nighttime construction crews recently enhanced pavement markings for motorists heading into south Orange County. These supplemental enhancements include the placement of large, reflective arrows within general-purpose lanes. Spaced at 300 foot intervals, the arrows nearly span the width of lanes and serve to facilitate traffic flow. Additionally, crews added blackout road stripes to heighten color contrast and lane continuity. Lastly, motorists will notice the installation of white reflective road dots along this stretch of SB between Laguna Hills and Mission Viejo.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
OCTA and Caltrans are working together to improve freeway capacity and operations on a 6.5-mile stretch of I-5 from SR-73 to El Toro Road in south Orange County. This voter-approved $580-million project will add a general purpose lane in each direction of the I-5 between Avery Parkway to Alicia Parkway, extend the second carpool lane from Alicia Parkway to El Toro Road in both directions, reconstruct two interchanges and one bridge, and modify on- and off-ramps. To further improve operations, carpool lanes in the project area will convert to continuous access. The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
