PILE DRIVING BEGINS AT AVERY PARKWAY

Crews will start piling driving for the final stage of Avery Pkwy. bridge beginning as early as Monday, Dec. 12, during daytime hours.


Pile driving is a common method of constructing structure foundations. To support the structure, steel or concrete beams or "piles" are driven into the soil until reaching a hard layer of earth beneath the structure foundation. Pile driving is necessary for the bridge work as part of the OC I-5 South County Improvements Project. 




WHEN:

  • Beginning as early as Monday, Dec. 12, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., for approximately three weeks



WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Construction noise is expected
  • Crews will pour footings and place concrete girders in Spring 2023

NIGHTLY LANE REDUCTIONS AT LA PAZ ROAD

Crews will continue installing false work at the La Paz bridge requiring eastbound and westbound lane reductions on La Paz Rd. between Cabot Rd. and Muirlands Blvd. This work is scheduled nightly, Monday, Dec. 5 through Friday, Dec. 9, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Please watch for detour signage and reduce your speed in the construction area.

  • Nightly lane reductions, Monday, Dec. 5 through Friday, Dec. 9, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.



WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Lane reductions between Cabot Rd. and Muirlands Blvd.
  • Please follow detour signage

NIGHTTIME CLOSURE OF NORTHBOUND I-5 ALICIA PARKWAY OFF-RAMP

Crews will conduct nighttime roadway work on northbound I-5 at the Alicia Pkwy. off-ramp requiring a ramp closure.


WHEN:

  • Nightly, Wednesday, Dec. 7 through Saturday, Dec. 10, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.


WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Northbound Alicia Pkwy. off-ramp closure
  • Detour signage will be in place to assist motorists


For the safety of the traveling public and construction crews, the speed limit throughout the I-5 South County construction zone remains reduced to 55 mph.

 

The speed limit will be strictly enforced and traffic fines may be doubled within the construction zone.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The project, which spans the cities of Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel, is expected to be completed in 2025.
