LA PAZ BRIDGE DEMOLITION

NIGHTLY CLOSURES

La Paz Road Nightly Closures for Bridge Demolition Work


Crew will demolish the center span of the I-5 bridge over La Paz Rd. on June 24 and June 25. As part of the demolition activity, La Paz Rd. will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. between Cabot Road and Muirlands Boulevard.


WHEN:

Nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25


WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Nightly closures of La Paz Rd. at I-5
  • Northbound and southbound loop on-ramps closed nightly
  • Signs will be in place to assist motorists with detours
  • Plan for additional travel time through the area

RAMP CLOSURES ALICIA PARKWAY

Alicia Parkway ramps will be closed nightly this week for bridge maintenance and excavation work beginning Monday, June 20 through Sunday, June 26.


WHEN:

  • 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly, Monday, June 20 through Sunday, June 26


WHAT TO EXPECT: 

  • Northbound Alicia Pkwy. loop and direct on-ramp closure (Monday-Sunday)
  • Southbound Alicia Pkwy direct on-ramp closure (Monday-Friday)
  • Signage will be in place to direct motorists

UPCOMING RETAINING WALL DEMOLITION

A combined retaining wall/sound wall adjacent to the southbound on-ramp from eastbound Alicia Parkway will be demolished beginning Friday, June 24. Work will begin as early as 7 a.m. It will take approximately 4-days to demolish the wall.


Crews will then reconstruct the wall to the east. Reconstruction is expected to take 9 months to complete. Once the wall is realigned and reconstructed, crews will begin building the new general-purpose lane and construct a new on-ramp. The work is part of the I-5 South County Improvements Project.



WHEN:

  • Wednesday, June 22, daily, as early as 7 a.m.


WHAT TO EXPECT: 

  • Demolition of existing sound wall
  • All work will be conducted from the freeway side of the sound wall 
  • Crews will make efforts to minimize any inconvenience to nearby neighbors
  • Noise levels will be monitored

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The project, which spans the cities of Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel, is expected to be completed in 2025.
